They're good until you start going to high ends or reference grade ones.

As for the Vibe versus the Shure, the Shure are more detailed and clear on the mids and highs, but don't have as much bass as the Vibes.

I think the Audio Technica ATH-CK7 are very detail and clear as well. Build quality is very solid.

I haven't tried those myself, but I've heard good things like you mentioned.

ATH-CK7 are very good for the price (around $70-$80)

warranty? sorry to hear this

Your main requirement is in-ear right?

First off, don't buy anything by Bose, you're already looking in the right direction.

The Super.fi 5 Pro isn't bad for the price as well. It would compare closer to the Shure E4c, and their biggest downfall is the fact that they're uncomfortable after extended listening. Looks like your price range would be below $200-ish (USD) so I'd recommend the Future Sonics Atrio M5.

if you want to go below $100, I own a pair of the Crossroads MylarOne X3's, and the new model X3i just came out. They're pretty much the best budget IEM, and right now you can only get them through http://www.jaben.net. The website still says X3, but if you order, they'll send the X3i's. If you need a comparison, they totally blow away Sennheiser CX300's, which are about $20 cheaper.

Etymotic ER4s are in that league too....

I have the Shure E500 (Now called SE530) and it's pretty good. Love the handy PTH unit. I'm current looking at a Sennheiser HD650. Hear that sounds terrific too.

Maybe if I get crazy I'd get a UE 11-Pro. Sounds pretty sweet that it's got a tweeter for mid-range.

Do it, go custom. I will too eventually. It's the best you can get.

Still using my Shure E5c, although I may think of replacing them with some Westone UM2's with a custom fit.

IMO the Westone UM2 sounds very similar to the Sennheiser HD650, while Shure tends to be a little too bass heavy and Etymotic bass anemic. although the Etymotic ER-4P are excellent for those that listen to classical, jazz, etc.

Next Best Thing To Live Music:

# Transparent, reference-quality sound
# For audiophiles, performing musicians and recording engineers
# For mixing, monitoring and critical listening
# Accurate real-ear response
# Unsurpassed isolation from outside sound

The ER•4 MicroPro™ earphones are the next best thing to live music, with noise isolation far surpassing that of active noise-canceling earphones. The ER•4s require NO batteries, and can be plugged into any audio source. Their external noise exclusion -- 35 dB with 3-flange eartips, 42 dB with foam eartips -- allows you to hear the full dynamic range of recordings without having to play them at unnaturally high and unsafe levels.
