I just got a new blackberry pearl 8100. I did not add any sort of data package to it, so it has no internet function, etc etc.

Is there a way to use some kind of pre-loaded maps/navigation/direction application without getting the data package?

Ah, here's a question:
Why would you get a BlackBerry w/o a data plan?!?!!! Kinda defeats the purpose, ya know...

As far as your "?" goes: Honestly, I do not know for sure, but I do not believe so. I still remember when I got my first BlackBerry (from eBay)... It was useless for everything besides phone calls and a few of the apps like Calculator, Calender, Password Keeper, and the stupid brick breaker game, before I got the data plan. You may as well have just got a regular phone to do all the same stuff and more. As I recall, I could not even get my text messages w/o the data plan. Did you just buy it to look important or something???

I gotta apologize if I am coming off mean, but I never could understand people that buy these things w/o the data plan - it's like buying a car to match your garage door or something, but you never plan to drive it...

IMHO - Just dish out the extra $$$ for the data plan...

You must have a BB dataplan to use BBMaps, GoogleMaps, etc. The applications constantly download the map portions as you move. They cannot be stored on the BB or on the SD card. This is the way the BB works and I know of no alternative. Even TeleNav uses data.
