Modify Shortcut response time

I've noticed that I have to hold down the shortcuts keys in mail a little longer than I'm used to and it's throwing me off. For example, when you hold down the 7 key on a message it will delete the message. On my old Dash it feels like I wouldn't have to hold the key down so long. Is there a registry entry that controls this delay and if so what is it so that I can modify it.
