Hey guys. I downloaded the HTC Touch PDF manual (just wanted to see the way it works...never held smartphone in my hand before and all retail stores only offer dummy models, so I can't see the real phone)

Anyways, I was reading the PDF and I couldn't ignore the fact that HTC Touch has very "primitive" looking User Interface.
I mean I am looking at the picture of the keyboard, and it seems like it's something that was invented in 1995. Comparing to iPhone (not iPhone's UI) it's like night and day.
The icons on Touch look very pixelated, and it's UI reminds me of Windows 98's style with scrolls and other stuff.

So my question HTC owners, is it really that bad as the manual made it look like? Keep in mind that I have not seen the actual model, only dummy model so I don't know if UI really does look like that.

I don't know...it just looks pretty bad. I am eye-candy lover

Well, the Touch interface isn't the iPhone interface, arguable the best smartphone UI out there right now. What you're not seeing is the Touch's Touchflo Cube UI, which gives you a figure gesture interface to the most commonly used functions on the Touch. It's pretty slick. Unfortunately, Touchflo doesn't extend to all the Touch's features, which rely on the Windows Mobile 6 UI. Yes, the WM 6 UI is a bit long in the tooth.

The Touch's uses a 2.8" QVGA LD-backlit display, the iPhone a 3.5" EQVGA LED-backlit display. That gives the Touch a 0.18 millimetre/pixel dot pitch and the iPhone a 0.1543 millimetre/pixel dot pitch. Smaller pixels mean less pixelation and smoother images. With smaller pixels, more pixels, larger screen, better aspect ration and brighter screen due to the LED backlight, the iPhone's screen is better than the Touch's in every way.

If what's important to you is a good UI and the best screen out there for multimedia playback, the iPhone is the way to go.

If your looking for an open system with large third-party software support, removable memory, a user replaceable battery, unlocked GSM and locked CDMA versions available, Touchflo, and just on principle you don't want Steve to take over the world, give the Touch, enhanced version of course, a try.

I don't know why they kept that keyboard like that, but eye candy wise, you're almost unlimited. Depending on what model you get, it will come with different software and even then you can skin and get whatever else software you want.

It's only if you're willing to set it up. Otherwise if you just want something out of the box, you're better off with an iPhone.

Bill is much closer to taking over the world than Steve will ever be.

Also, iphone doesn't support active sync, exchange servers or push e-mail for now.

There are no business or professional apps for iphone (i.e. medical, accounting, etc...).

There is the updated 'Touch Keyboard' which looks nice, plus numerous third party keyboard applications, the possibilities are endless

I think Bill is pretty much an irrelevant at this point. Also, the iPhone uses iTunes to sync with Outlook and the PC, so I think it's pretty much a toss up there.

But when everything is said and done, I own a Touch enhanced, not an iPhone. (I wanted a Touch Cruise, but the ship date slipped and I needed a replacement phone ASP.)

Indeed it does. And while many phones sync with outlook or other PIM software, not all have the ability to sync with remote exchange servers, or other platforms. That was my main reason for choosing a WM6 device, since I have an exchange server at work that I want tom access from multiple sites, and I didn't want to pay for Blackberry's exorbitant fees.

The choice of device rests on several items, not just the quality of screen. The user must identify his/her needs first.

I posted some pics of the actual softkeyboard you have with the Touch

See here

And that's not counting the numerous one you can find on the web.

The iPhone has the ability to sync with Microsoft's and other's exchange servers...
