I just switched to alltel & got the V3a. I've been trying to get opera mini & the gmail app on it all night but I cant download them. The browser just won't let me. It says "page cannot be displayed". I can't even get anything off getjar.com. Any way around this, or do I have to bust out the Moto phone tools?

Since Alltel is a vendor that only offers phones that are BREW based software and Opera Mini is a Java based software, they are not easily compatible. It can be done but the details are not within my immediate grasp. You will need to use a java emulator (IBM has one you can download) on the phone and then use opera mini. Or you can use Opera Mobile which is available for a BREW enabled phone on the Opera website. Opera Mobile is a BREW enabled software for Alltel phones and others but it costs $24. Hope this helps with your frustration.

Nope. If the phone's firmware doesn't have Java built in, you can NOT enable it.

If you're thinking this because you saw a description next to a particular bit in P2KSeem... then read Item # 41 at -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/FAQ.htm

Because the Alltel Razr uses BREW, not Java... you can NOT load any apps on it that do not come from Alltel's Axcess Shop.

AFAIK, the IBM java emulater is not available that way, nor is OperaMini.

Opera Mobile is for use on Symbian S60 or Windows mobile devices.

So there is no way to use anything but the built in browser on an Alltel Razr.

OperaMini did announce a BREW version, BUT as of yet, I haven't seen any wireless carriers make it available for their BREW handsets.

As for the Gmail app.. again, that is a Java app... so no way to use it on your phone.
