Touch question

I am very close to purchasing an HTC Touch. I have a few questions that maybe someone can answer for me. Is the lack of WiFi that big of a deal or is the network through sprint fast enough. Also, will the touch receive rev a and what do you get out of rev a. I heard something about GPS. The only thing drawing me to the mogul is the keyboard and WiFi. I read somewhere on the forum where you could add WiFi on to the touch. Is this true? Could I listen to Sirius on the Touch. I would really enjoy listening to Howard Stern in my office where I get no Sirius reception. Thanks for all your help.

As for the speed. I found it to be extremely fast on sprints network. I have a BB curve as well and it's a lot slower on AT&T's network when downloading sided by side. so I would say you don't necessarily need WIFI but if you must have a keyboard you're probably better off with something else. As for the revisions there are a few threads covering that

I was told that the touch had wifi. Is that wrong?

with wifi you can surf internet if there is wireless internet modem access in your area and that area or home is using wireless modem.

The HTC touch has WiFi, but the HTC vogue does not. HTC Vogue equals Sprint Touch.

From what I've seen the only TOUCH's that have the WIFI are the GSM models. The CDMA don't.

Exactly

And if you absolutely want wifi you can sacrifice your microsd slot for a wifi card, although I'm not sure how well those work

Not a good idea on a CDMA Touch. The microSD transmitter will have to hang out the side of the phone and you have to leave the side panel hanging off the phone. For some stupid reason, the CDMA side panel is not removeable and hangs on to the phone by two thin strips of plastic. If you try to switch back and forth from a microSD card to a wifi card too often, the side panel will break off and then you're screwed. Even though they have three plastic prongs to keep the side panel in place, I doubt that it will keep it in place if you break the thin plastic strips.

Basically, if you want wifi on a Sprint phone, don't get the Touch.

I see most mobile Wifi cards won't work with windows mobile 6.0. Anyone knows of any ones that do?

Whether you need wifi or not depends on how you will use it. If you need it strictly to get internet access at hotspots then I would say no you don't need it. Sprint's network is plenty fast for that. It is EVDO, so you will not be able to use voice and data at the same time. It's not so bad though, if you get a voice call it will just stop your data and in most cases will reconnect after you finish your call. I've had my touch for almost a month and thought I wouldn't miss the wifi. Having wifi makes it much easier to access different networks for file access. Also there is a program out there that could turn your phone into a mobile hotspot using it's wifi as an access point. This makes it much easier to tether one or many computers. As for the keyboard, do a search. There are alternatives to the HTC OSK which work much better. I have a couple loaded on my touch, but favor the PCM keyboard. You won't be able to type as fast, but it's managable. I also use a Blackberry from work and that's definitely easier.

I'm still very satisfied with my sprint touch, mostly since sprint doesn't offer anything else that comes close to the touch in terms of features combined with size. I almost got a mogul, but I kept waiting because there seems to be many bugs that never got worked out. The touch came out while I was on the fence and it has none of the bugs the mogul has (none that affect me anyway). Do some research on the mogul first and see if you can live with it's bugs, then decide.

Thanks for all your help. I thought about it and purchased the touch. I like the size and the fact it has a lot more memory. I figure the sprint network is fast enough for what I will be doing (checking mail, reading news, basic web browsing). Now I have a few other questions for you. What cases are you all using. I like the silicone cases that they sell and a few of the leather cases. Also, where are you guys D/L these programs for the touch like the task manager, keyboards, etc.... Would those programs be installed on the memory card or in the phone. Do they make a cradle for this phone yet? Thanks again for your help.

a cradle is available on cnn.cn... only $15US
