3G in Jonesboro Arkansas

Several of my friends have noted that 3G has been flashing on their phones in the Jonesboro area today. How long does it usually take once this begins to happen before the network is launched? I will not be able to take advantage of 3G, at least not until Apple releases the Gen. 2 iPhone...but still curious....
