Speaker Problem with IPhone. (hearing issues during phone call)

I just received my brand new iphone and the speaker seems to be working fine until I make a phone call. I can barely hear the person on the other end. But when I'm using it for other things such as music or youtube, it sounds fine.

Does anyone else have this problem and is there anyway I can fix it?

I bought it off ebay and it came in a white box that says "apple certified" on it. Its a 4gb 1.1 firmware.

Help will be much appreciated.
