1.1.2 OTB with my Current BBC plan?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Okay, I've searched the forums and It's unclear if I can do what I want to do. If I go purchase a 1.1.2 OTB and use the above formula from iclarified will I be able to use it as a phone considering I am with ATT?!?! I realize their is no unlocker to use non att sims but considering I'm with them can I theororetically buy a brand new 1.1.2 and use it with my current plan. I want to retain my BBC plan so I can still bounce back between a BB and an iphone.

I've searched but I'm sure the flames will accompany this thread and I'm prepared

All you would have to do is jailbreak and bypass activation. Then you can just swap phones as you please.

I thought this only applied to phones that were not 1.1.2 OTB?!?! I was under the impression that 1.1.2 OTB can not be downgraded.

You are correct. However, 1.1.2 OTB can be jailbroken, which will bypass AT&T activation, and the phone will work with any AT&T SIM. It won't work with a foreign (non-AT&T) SIM, however, meaning you can't swap in a T-Mobile SIM, for example.

But it'll work fine on AT&T.

Awesome...thanks for the reply and for saving me a couple hundo by avoiding unlocked ones on ebay.

If I were you, I'd STILL ask them to look for a Week 44 or earlier. Never know, you might get lucky. If you do, you'll pay $399 + tax (for example, 7% here in FL, so $423), and you could then sell it on eBay for $500 - $600 easily. That's a quick profit, and you then turn around and buy a 1.1.2 with the profits, reducing the overall cost you pay (in my example, assuming you pay 7% tax and sell the iPhone for $550, you'd make $127 profit, and end up paying $296 for a new 1.1.2 from AT&T.)

Doesn't hurt to try. Who knows, you might get lucky and find a store with several 1.1.1/Week 44 or earlier ones in stock. If you do, buy them all (seriously! If you need help selling them, I'll put you in touch with my guy who will buy them from you.)

too late....just got back from the apple store and It looks like it's a 1.1.2 as it say 4749 or something like that in the serial number...

yeah, the newest batches don't have letters for the 2nd digit. When they first came out, a lot of people were thinking they were refurbs or something. the 4th and 5th digit still appears to hold true for week #, however.

Downgraded to 1.1.1 and jailbroke my phone. Popped in my att sim and it recognizes my phone number in the dialer/contacts menu but I can't make calls/access the network. Do I now need to upgrade back to 1.1.2?!?...and if so, will I still have installer available on my home screen?

I'm in the same situation. I did a google search and someone on another forum said they upgraded it to 1.1.2 but he didnt stat that the phone was still jailbroken after update but did have signal. Where are all the iPhone gurus?

I'm probably going to upgrade tonight and see what happens.

I just did and now it asks me to activate the phone. So now i have to downgrade again.

Just did this and it works now.

Step 3: If you are on this step you have an activated iPhone running firmware 1.1.1. Visit www.jailbreakme.com URL on your iPhone (you need WiFi to do this as the Edge network won't be working). Click "Install AppSnapp". Your iPhone will navigate to another page and briefly show a blue square in the upper corner before Safari crashes. At this point a status HUD should pop-up and display the status of the jailbreak. If you do not see this status HUD, go back to www.jailbreakme.com and try it again. After a successful jailbreak, your iPhone will soft-restart and you will see Installer.app on your homescreen. At this point I find it's best to do a manual restart (hold the power button until the "slide to power off" slider appears. Slide it off, then hold the power button until the iPhone starts back up). This step is optional though.

Step 4: If you are on this step, you have a jailbroken (if you have Installer.app, you are jailbroken) iPhone running 1.1.1 firmware. Click on Installer on you iPhone homescreen and allow it to check and refresh your sources. If necessary, update Installer (you will see an Installer update in the update tab in Installer if this is necessary). Under the Install tab, navigate to Tweaks (1.1.1) > OktoPrep and download OktoPrep. After the download, click the home button and allow the iPhone to soft-restart. Back in iTunes, shift-click on "Upgrade" (NOT RESTORE!) and navigate to your 1.1.2 Firmware (download here). If iTunes is already prompting you to upgrade to 1.1.2 it is not necessary to shift-click...simply click "Upgrade" and allow your iPhone to be upgraded (NOTE: if you do this, iTunes will automatically download the firmware taking around 5 mins at broadband speeds).

Step 5: If you are on this step, you have an iPhone at the activation screen running firmware 1.1.2 and had installed OktoPrep on 1.1.1 before upgrading. Close out of iTunes. Unzip and open the folder containing the 1.1.2 Jailbreak (download here). Double-click on windows.bat and hit enter when Command Prompt pops up. A Java window will pop up (I would suggest to check "Install SSH" but that's up to you). Click Jailbreak! A progress bar will pop up and Command Prompt will start displaying code. Let the program run (it should take under 10 minutes). After it's finished it will say "Done! Reboot your device (it will automatically reboot once after you do so)". And wala! JAILBROKEN

Greenteeth, what steps did you take to get your phone to work? I'm in the same boat as you. I have an OTB 1.1.2 version Iphone, but I want to keep my blackberry plan and use the Iphone when I'm not using my blackberry. Let me know. Thanks.
