Softbank 911T UNLOCKED for 3G!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: alan2000

Apparently, Softbank 911T has been unlocked!
It is ONLY availible for 3G network.

Taiwan is selling it now. If anyone is interested, take a look at the yahoo auctions.

It seems like a true unlock cuz the seller said people can try it out before buying it.

http://tw.f4.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/d29240258http://www.toshiba.co.jp/product/et...t/911t_menu.htm

Link for anyone who is interested.

I am looking for it now in Vancouver.
Anyone know where I can look for it?

Posted by: yangj08

Don't. Its 3G is incompatible with US-based 3G. But that's great news for Europe and other Asian countries.

Posted by: penpower

I checked taiwan yahoo under toshiba through the link you posted. However, there are only three of them are selling "unlocked" 911t. None of them actually is showing a operator name on the display or even having the phone powering on.

Posted by: alan2000

http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail...18&t=469156&p=2

According to this site,
seems like someone bought it and tried it already...
sad... how it's 3G is only for Asia/Europe
WHY!! WHY North Americans want everything so special... even the 3G network...
sigh....

Posted by: yangj08

Bah- no MMS/internet? That sucks. Oh, and we don't use the same 3G as Asia and Europe due to a big mistake (that's a subjective term) on the part of the FCC (because we went with 1900MHz for GSM, there's no room for the 3G uplink so that was moved to 1700MHz instead).

Posted by: penpower

still no one care to share a picture to prove it? everyone on mobile01 shows no picture at all?

Posted by: lamplighter

I dont know about this, it seems to good to be true. If it is real it is amazing news, especially since it seems that I can use it here in N.Z.
I'll believe it when i see one for myself.

Posted by: yangj08

Well, we'll have to wait for pictures. I wish the mainland would just launch 3G already... oh well, off to HK in a week so I'll get to see what I've been missing with 3G.

Posted by: hankit

I had one myself right now from one of the shops i go to in Hong Kong.

After you put in your USIM, and load up, the phone doesnt show any opreater logo, and of course, just like the good old days of 903sh, it has the re-provisioning issues.

In terms of the 3G only issues, for people in Hong Kong, CSL works. Desipte whatever the plan your running on, as long as the opreater gives you a USIM AND has 3G service...you can still run on your regular NON 3G plan.

so bascially, as long as your operator has 3G signal, it will work.

For people who is running cingular...sorry fella's..i just try mine...it doesn't work at all, even it roams on networks that has 3G, it still doesn't connect to it.

So i suppose, if you have a USIM..you might get away..
but i cannot confirm that myself as i doubt cingular offers USIM in any state...

Cingular/AT&T's 3G isn't the same 3G that the 911T runs on anyhow so it doesn't matter. Asia/Europe only.

i think he meant about the att sim roaming in hk

Posted by: yangj08

Oh. That sucks then. I want one of these so bad.

Posted by: alan2000

in case anyone who still can't believe(for example... me.... sigh... ) the fact that 3G in North America is different from 3G in Asia

North America 3G HSPDA at 850mhz / 1900mhz
Asia 3G HSPDA at 2110-2200 MHz

Posted by: yangj08

Japan has a bit of 850MHz, actually. DoCoMo runs it- their phones are 2100/850.

Posted by: alan2000

OMG...
should i risk?
to get it and try it with fido 3G?

This is a Softbank phone. It runs 2100MHz only.

Too bad for you, the unlocked 911T phone works only with Asia and Europe's 3G network and not the North America's 3G network.
Most probably i'm getting 1 set next week....yippeeeee

If you get it do a review please. I'd like to know just what works and what doesn't with the unlock (and everything else- is the screen all it's cracked up to be, how's the camera, etc).

No problem will post a review when i get the phone.
Looks like China is also out of luck in using this phone because "China Mobile" use a different 3G standard (i.e. TD-SCDMA) whereas this phone is using WCDMA 2100MHz. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Ohhhhh i'm so lucky to live in a country that use the same 3G standard as Softbank's 3G standard .

These are the info i have gathered so far.

Camera function can be use.
GPRS is not working, therefore can't use MMS.
The UI is the original Japanese UI, and can switch between English and Japanese.
T9 supported.
1seg TV only works in Japan using Softbank's USIM.
Support AAC ringtone of up to 5MB.
Music functions can be use.
Can make and receive phone calls and sms only if you use a 3G USIM with 3G network.
A2DP bluetooth works.

Posted by: Yttrasil

Really interesting this!

So I wonder how do you unlock it, is it just software or do you need to change some hardware or is it the sim? Live in Sweden need to know how i can unluck this beauty if im getting one =)

How is it with videos btw if you wanna use it as a videoplayer?
Also what kind of sd card does it use hmm... loads of questions here hehe

Actually, China Unicom's going WCDMA, so I still have hope. Normally I'd prefer China Mobile because China Unicom only offers data and MMS with a 2-year contract (I'm leaving in a year), but if the phone can't do it anyway then it doesn't really matter.

Oh, and it uses microSD.

Posted by: jeebjp

This is really nice, and I'll have to search around if the unlocking software will come out after a while...

For people interested in the multimedia features - The MobileHackerz 911T Wiki page - just use Google Translate or something to translate the basic stuff, although just copying the QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_VGA_AAC.ini into the cores folder should be enough. The way of getting newer ffmpeg versions and all are written in the wiki, so there's no real need to keep to the version that's in the v.0.3.0 release. In short - 640x480@30fps.

Also accepting AAC and HE-AAC as ringtones is a nice thing from Toshiba.

Posted by: yangj08

I didn't notice that at first. Up to 5MB? Much better than MMF like the 904T uses.

On a tangent- will the 910T ever be unlocked?

Posted by: cta16

Some more info about the 911T but it's in Chinese.
Link
I feel so bad that I'm Chinese but I can't read it xD

Posted by: aw614

so i guess it runs off with no oplogo, or do they have it off.

I though all signs pointed to China Unicom going with EVDO?

I thought the same thing; then a news report came up here with a couple of details about China Unicom's 3G launch. Well, that'll be the end of my time with China Mobile.

Posted by: electric

Another thing to take note of this phone is you have to bear with the pain of entering in the phone book 1 by 1 (i.e. 1 for the phone call another for the sms) just like the 904T (or perhaps all pervious Toshiba models with native Japanese f/w).
For those who have use 904T before you know what I mean.

Just got my 911T. There is no operater logo on the main screen, and u cannot switch it on either. The screen is just awesome, oh man, that 3 inch WVGA screen is something i have never seen before on any mobile phone. It supports flash wallpaper too. Now i'm charging the battery and i will post some photos of it later.

I want this phone...

Posted by: 2SHY

If you want it hit ebay. Someone has it for sale.

Posted by: Junglizt1210

i told martin alraedy... i got mine off ebay from some seller with very little feedback from hk.

More pics of my new keitai denwa.

Lots of people came to me asking me what phone I'm using, and just imagine the shock on their face " " when I told them it's a Japanese keitai.

Posted by: n1ghtfly

Nice pics!!!

if you don't mind, could you post more pics from different side?
I think this is the clearest pics of 911t..

Also about that shinny plastic for the nav, does it looks cheap in real life? and how bout the build quality?

Thanks in advance

Posted by: 2SHY

Can we see pictures of the User Interface?

Posted by: Akira87

arghh im so jealous >.<, my N95 and N82 doesnt make me happy at all LOL

Posted by: crackersthecat

The 911t is a great phone, I live in Japan and have one. I will be moving back to the states soon and was looking to unlock it. I hate to give it up but looks like I have to. I have my old 904t I can try and unlock.

No problem, will post more pics of this sexy keitai denwa when I'm back home. FYI those pics are taken with my faithful 903sh

The front part is glossy like the housing of 903sh and the back is matte. The build of 911T (and perhaps all Japan domestic keitai denwas) are definitely better when compared to most mainstream mobile phones (e.g. Nokia, Motorola etc.).

And the most important point is (in terms of quality) Sharp and Toshiba keitais made for Japanese domestic market are 100% manufactured in Japan (unlike those so call "mainstream" mobiles that are made in China).

Well I think you should be glad about it...the 920T has just been made available here in Hong Kong and you might want to look into that...they are selling it for HKD3100 as of now

If you want to look at it or even pick your color first

Posted by: in2sky

really? woow, you mean unlocked, usable in europe? any idea which online shop should we use? I'm sure this valuable information will be a hit on howard forums!

Posted by: Eyies

Wish I could use this in Canada.. =(

Posted by: nekopanda

Ar.. what a nice phone...
I saw a posting in Ebay, and I'm thinking of getting it, but then the seller informed me that this phone (and the 920T model) might not works in US

I thought T-Mobile already support 3G?!??!?!?!? No????
Wait, I thought America already supports 3G!

They don't work in the US since AT&T and Rogers/Fido in Canada use 850/1900 for 3G and T-Mobile uses a different form of 2100 3G.

Posted by: KillTime111

those are some nice pics! i really like the design of this phone, much more than 920t for some reason. i was so ready to buy this phone a few weeks ago, until i found out it can`t be used in North America... i guess my thing now is slider phones, and the 911T just seems perfect.. why must america have a different frequency with 3G, whyYYyy.. maybe i`ll try and save up for a 920sh. sanks again for the pics!

Be proud of your Toshiba! Don't make it look like an iPhone man =)

Posted by: NitenDoraku5

I just thought it was cool that toshiba allows you to change the theme. Other phones in japan is difficult to change the theme if even possible. Anyway the default themes are ugly on the 911T.

Posted by: yangj08

So you made that yourself?

Yeah that's true I guess.. I downloaded 13 themes for my 920SH yesterday, and all of them required a fee to be used =/

UGH

Just wanted to chime in and say that I finally got my 911T and it is AMAZING !!!! The screen is beyond anything I have had, for the wallpaper anyway !
Got it software unlocked and just put my SIM card in and fantastic reception from the start. Just figured out Beatjam and got it to work perfectly with album art and all, the best part is that my headset from my Sharp 770 works perfectly with the 911T.
I was just wondering how amazing this would be to use in Japan with all the extra applications to use, quite afew apps on this are Japan only but there are plenty of other things here to keep you busy.I know this mobile is old now but was just too excited about it to keep it to myself.
If anyone has any questions please ask.

Cheers, LL-

Damn, I just got one of these unlocked off of ebay and it won't see a network Tried three USIM: my swedish Tele2, a UK O2 and a UK Orange. It just shows "Out"=out of range Was assured by the seller that it was tested, and sure enough in the call list there is an incoming call presumably from their test.

Anyone know if there's anything I can do about this or do I now just have a very expensive, very shiny MP3 player?

Has anyone else used one in Sweden? I know the networks ought to be compatible since I used my Swedish phone with a Softbank SIM in Japan and that worked fine

The 911T cannot roam, so in Sweden you cannot use UK USIMS.
Instead are you sure that Tele2 in your area have propretary WCDMA signal?

Sorry in advance for banality....but sometimes

Aha. The roaming thing could explain Tele2 not working as well, since they share their 3G network with another operator, so the 3G network doesn't have the same name as the home network (which I guess could be interpreted by the phone as roaming?). I'll pick up a prepaid 3 card and try that out, should work fine.

Posted by: bestdesignman

I just got my 911T but can't figure out how to install its software from the included CD in the box. I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me figure out how to install the phone software so that I could transfer pictures, movies and music (how to install beatjam?). Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that was it. I got impatient and went into town and picked up a Telenor SIM, and it works great with that. Thanks for the roaming clue Hiroshi!
