Hey everyone,

I'm getting my iPhone this week and I have a few questions.
I know its going to come with firmware 1.1.2, and I have the tut from iClarified on how to jailbreak it. I'm curious, since i plan on jailbreaking my phone, do I activate it with AT&T first? or do I jailbreak and all that? thanks for the help

The answer is a quick "it depends". Jailbreaking it simply allows you to install 3rd party apps, and bypass AT&T activation (allowing you to use it as an iPid Touch, basically.) If you already have an AT&T plan, you can then pop in your existing SIM and you're done, it'll be a phone on the AT&T network. If you're looking to use it with another carrier (T-Mobile, for example), you can't.

In that instance I would downgrade to 1.1.1 right out of the gate. Upgrade to 1.1.2 and before you jailbreak it, activate it in iTunes. Once you activate it, then run the jail break software.

if a person has a working att sim but is a non iphone sim and it works in their iphone would they just go thru the jailbreak process before activating it? I do not want to extend my contract with att since i had purchased another phone 6 month ago and signed for 2 years then i don't want to add another 2 to it already!
