New to 8600: ask for pointers for some settings...

Hey guys,

I'm ecstatic about my new baby! A couple questions though...

Caller ID... it doesn't seem to work. Is there something I need to activate? That seems like something that wouldn't make sense.

Email... I don't have the option to set this up under Messaging/Message settings.

Is the latter specific to where the phone was released? My FW is v3.52

TIA

^ CallerID Incoming or outgoing? For outgoing, Menu > Settings > Call settings > Send my caller ID > Yes. For email, certain product code may not have it. Remove the battery to find out the product code on the label.

Incoming...

What does the product code look like? This is what I see:
Model: 8600d
Type: RM-164

^ Unless your service doesn't include CallerID or there're codes to disable it, I don't have a clue then. Check w/ at&t.

Go to http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_528996 to see what product code is like.

My code is 0551900. I find this strange because incoming caller ID is something thats so basic! I'll check with them and see whats up.

Is it just me or does the 8600 not fit in the OEM leather case??

Whats a good replacement?

BTW, I figured out the incoming caller ID problem. The Luna is extremely picky... ie. I input all my numbers like +1-XXX-XXXX and incoming calls are 1-XXX-XXXX. This SMALL difference will cause it to not display the name

^ Geez! You've CallerID but just not display the CONTACT names saved! It's DIFFERENT! I thought you've got no numbers showing up on the screen at all! Next time, describe the situation more clearly please. BTW, you need to clarify one more item: Why would the area code NPA/NXX prefix not listed in your post i.e. 1-XXX-xxx-xxxx or +1-XXX-xxx-xxxx

And, product code 0551900 is loaded with AMER-N NA REGIONAL BLACK variant firmware. So your experience make all senses: No email settings and the +1 country code prefix isn't usual "North American" way to call even though it's still quite GSM.

However what would you like to keep: showing the number in "North American" way i.e. xxx-xxx-xxxx or +CCCxxxxxxxxxx ?

Haha my bad. Thanks for the detailed response. And yes, I forgot the prefix please don't ban me!

I grew up overseas and since my family is still over there, its nice to be able to just use the '+' instead of remembering the 0's and 1's necessary to dial international. Email is also pretty important to me if the 8600 supports IMAP/push email.

If I understand you correctly, if I change my product code to a non-NAM one and receive a call, something along the lines of +1-123-4567-8900 would show up? Or would it still be 1-234-567-8900?

BTW, where/how can I change the PC to something else? NSS?

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

^ No, it'll be +112345678900 No dash. Use the NSS to change the product code. Which variant/language pack do you wanna have? BTW, I'm going to move this thread to Nokia modding subforum.

Email is my main concern. English is a must as well. Will the European product code work?

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

^ English, there's UK English centric EURO-C CTV BLACK product code you can try: 0550136 And, I warn you: USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! You may end up w/ a brick if anything go wrong. You're technically void your warranty. So it's up to you. Being picky has a price to pay but it'd be rewarding when things work out. Good luck!

Thanks again for all your help!
