I installed it on my i580 that had R5C.00.02 previously, and the phone restarts every time I try to load a Java app. I then moved one app to the memory card successfully, with the plan of moving them all to the card and reinstalling the update. In the middle of moving the next app, the phone restarted. Now it restarts on its own soon after getting a signal, or (sooner) immediately upon trying to enter the Java system.

I should have known better... if it ain't broke...

I'm very disappointed if auto fetching of texts was not added

"Reset while downloading Digital Items"

Haha, I had that problem, bought a ringtone, and the phone restarted while it was trying to download it. The techs at the service center didn't know how to fix it so they just gave me a brand new 580, which did the same thing, but I still got to keep the brand new one Will be loading this later on to check it out.

EDIT: Was going to move some apps to the card BEFORE installing the new software, now my phone restarts when I try to access java apps. Back to the sprint store

Sounds familiar. I had my phone set to load a java app on power up, so it would restart as soon as the java app tried to load. I had to remove the battery during startup to turn the phone off. Then I held the power key during startup to turn the transmitters off. Doing this gave me enough time to change my power up settings and keep the java app from loading. I then deleted all the installed hava apps (none of which were the default apps) and reinstalled the update, and then reinstalled the java apps. The phone has restarted once since then, but not during startup (it was about a day later). I don't know if this latest restart is related to the upgrade, or a prior issue I had with my phone restarting that Sprint supposedly fixed (they blamed it on the battery (contacts, I assume), which they replaced). Aside from the series of restarts following the upgrade, it had not restarted since the "fixed" it.

Record Management System (RMS) &

File System related Unhandled Exceptions

GPS Location Blowouts:
There were changes made to the software of the above handset to prevent RF spurs that have been
shown to cause GPS location blowouts under low GPS signal conditions.

Record Management System (RMS) and File System related Unhandled Exceptions:
On rare occasions, when the above handsets ask the File System for a file and if the file is corrupt, the File System would return an error. The Virtual Machine (VM) code may consider this fatal and exit the application.

Third Call not rejected properly:
A third received call does not forward to voicemail when a user receives and accepts a second inbound call while putting a first call on hold.

Reset while downloading Digital Items:
While downloading digital items, if the file name is larger than 32 characters the handset will generate a reset. This fix will truncate the file name in the digital wrapper thus preventing the handset from generating a reset.

You seem awfully calm about the whole thing. What exactly did you do to correct the problem?

It is kinda a funny story. I was picking up my Dad and I was to call him when I was near. I got lost so I went to open google maps when it started restarting. I was so pissed. I am lost and can't call anyone. It kept restarting and transmitters were off so I turned them back on to call him and then it would restart again. Then I took out the battery and put it back in. Started it up and transmitters were off. So then I went to move the java app to the card and in the process it restarted. I was able to start it up and then I turned the transmitters on and it didn't restart. So then I called up for directions and was able to pick him up. Then I looked to see where is google maps and it was on the card. So I moved it back and since then it has been working. I moved all my other java apps to the card before I updated but I didn't move google maps. So that is the only one that messed up.

Nice long answer.

Thanks for the reply. Except for the part about picking up your dad, the details of the whole mess sound very similar to mine.

They really need to release a new update, I'm on like, my 8th i580 in several months because of java issues. I tried to tell the manager at the Sprint store that I think there's a problem with the software, and she insisted that they rarely ever get 580s in for repair and its not a software issue. I'm about to just ditch the phone altogether and get an ic902 or something, but I want to stay with the i580 because it's a rugged phone, and the RF is better than most Nextels I've used in my area.

Anyone have any luck with R5C.00.03 and java apps?!? It restarts by itself constantly when accessing java apps. I thought maybe because it was apps not provided from Nextel (Opera mini, etc.) but it does the same with Telenav and other apps straight from Nextel...
