iphone app unlock question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After reading several of the stickies, I am getting more and more confused.

I am already on AT&T. I am not interested in unlocking my phone to run on another network. All I want to do is unlock it to run 3rd party apps.

Can someone please just point me to the thread that I need to read to do that?

Thanks.

What you want is called a jailbreak -- not unlock; seek out guides/references to jailbreaking -- and you are set.

But from what I am reading I need appunlock to install software. Do I need to jailbreak first?

All you need to do is Jailbreak your iphone. You do not wanna unlock it unless you wanna use it on another carrier.

If you Jailbreak it you will be able to run 3rd party apps.

So I do not need to install the application called appinstaller? I went to their site but it only discusses 1.1.1 and older. If I jailbreak, you're saying I do not need to install appinstaller?

Thanks

sigh

Jailbreak means getting installer and Ssh file transfer engine on your phone.

If you run jailbreakme.com guide that will get you there

OK...thanks for the patience and the answer.

I go to jailbreakme.com on the iphone and it states it is for the 1.1.1

I click install now and nothing happens.
