working non iphone att sim jailbreak & then activate?

if a person has a working att sim but is a non iphone sim and it works in their iphone (all except visual voicemail)would they just go thru the jailbreak process before activating it? I do not want to extend my contract with att since i had purchased another phone 6 month ago and signed for 2 years then i don't want to add another 2 years to it already! I am planning on staying with att. the phone says it is a 1.1.1 After jailbreaking and you go thru activation can you add the visual voicemail or do u just call and have them add to plan? As you can tell i am a noobie!

You can't add visual voicemail. It's in the iphone data plan.

so unless you activate it legally you can't get visual voicemail? I have an oob 1.1.1 that has not been activated as of yet. Once it is activated thru itunes and then you jailbreak it and it goes thru activation again correct? So att willl know that i have iphone correct?

Should still work after you jailbreak since you activate through itunes.

so by activating thru itunes 1st does att know you then have the iphone? and what happens when you jailbreak and reactivate? You do have to activate 1st before jailbreaking right? The reason i ask because i have not activated it and i can make & recieve calls using my old phones att sim and i can connect on wifi already. It is a 1.1.1 phone that i bought from a friend and he got it as an exchange at Apple last week.
