Can someone tell me how I can wi fi with my 8525 without connecting to at&t. That really makes me mad what a rip off that they can get away with that. I flat out asked the dealer if the phone wifis and they said yes. They failed to mention that the phone could not do it without a media pack. I wifi with my ipaq 2795. Is there or is there not a fix for this???

I don't know quite what you are talking about here. The Wifi connection on the 8525 is completely independent of whatever Service Provider you might use, AT&T or otherwise. In fact you can leave the SIM out and hookup to Wifi anywhere it's available. There are no imposed restrictions that you have to go with AT&T's data service to connect to Wifi.

Just find your own wireless router at home to connect to, or any other one out there that offers free connections and use it to your heart's content. But be careful that you are on the Wifi connection and not using your carriers data service without a service plan cause by the minute data is not cheap.

Anytime I try and connect with the phone via its wi fi connection it go through GPRS. It will not directly connect via my home router with out At&t GPRS. Anyone with this phone and At &t is familiar with this situation from what I understand on the web and there is supposed to be a fix for it.

If I turn on the WiFI from the comm manager screen and then connect to by access point in my house, the connection stays WiFi and does not go back to the cell connection. If you let the phone pick which one it wants, it almost always goes via cell connection. Make sure you manually turn on the wifi prior to trying to connect via Int Exp.
Hope this helps,
Frank

so if i turn on wifi and select my homes network I won't get charged for the data correct? how do i know if i am using my wifi connection or the phone to get to web pages? sorry I am a newb ...

look at thetop bar on your screen. It will indicate either arrows for wifi G or H if you are using At&T internet portal.

or just call them and have them block data access that way you dont have to worry about them charging you and you need no plan what so ever to use wifi

so you using wifi will be free right (except for the isp monthly charges)? I read on some other forums that's it not... I couldn't understand why considering i would be using my home's internet connection

wifi is free unless you link to a wifi site that charges for usage. You will not pay for the wifi service in your home as you are using a connection you are already paying for.

There are some free wifi sites in cities other sites charge but they will notify you and ask if you want to continue before allowing you to use their wifi portal.
