Questions about RAZR V9m

I had a few questions about the RAZR V9m.

1. How easy is it to revert to the Motorola firmware?
2. Is it possible to install applications without buying them from my carrier's store? If so, what variety of applications can I find out there. I've always been a huge fan of free software, and find it ridiculous to pay $3/month for the right to use an application. Is it generally a violation of the TOS to install custom applications? If I have unlimited data, can applications such as weather, email, and web browser access the internet through my phone?
3. Is it possible to change the soft keys on the front of the phone (on the screen)?
4. In real life, what kind of battery life does this phone get?
5. I heard rumors that this phone was powered by Linux. Are there any neat tricks that can be done with this?

Thanks,

D.S.

1. You haven't told us which carrier branded V9m you are using. There are plenty of guides found on the forums bout flashing your phone if you use the search function.
2. In a word, NO. Since the V9m is not a Java based phone, you will have to use your carriers service to download most apps--unless you can find a Java enabled flash. (Good Luck with that one.)
3. Nope.
4. That depends, those with a V9m would have to answer that, as my version is a GSM model and may be different.
5. No, it is not Linux based. The only Razr2 that is Linux based is the Razr2 V8 which is a GSM based phone currently used by T-Mobile and unlocked/unbranded on AT&T.

Bell's usually are. Other carriers, (Verizon, U.S. Cellular, Alltel), etc. are BREW based.
