8100 vs. LG5350

I've got an LG5350 that I am not unhappy with, but I'm thinking hard about the new Sanyo 8100 because of the camera and the price.

Anybody know how the construction quality is between the two phones?

Is the 8100 a lot thicker than the 5350? I have a great belt case now that I would hate to give up.

How is the quality of sound through the earpiece between the two phones? My previous 4900 was finicky about how you held it to your ear, if it wasn't in the "sweet spot" the quality of sound suffered.

Thanks for the helt!!

Wow!! All these mobile phone experts on this board, and nobody has a clue?

Quality wise Sanyos are the best. They have the lowest return rate of any phones at Sprint. I still see come in to my store with Sanyos that are 3 and 4 years old and they refuse to get rid of them. The sweet spot on the 8100 ear piece isnt a problem because the earpiece is improved volume wise. I find it to be loud and clear. I think you will notice an improvement in reception and features on the 8100 compared to your 5350. I like the 5350 but the Sanyo 8100 is a good little phone. It had me thinking about trading my 5300 for a minute...lol. I would say the thickness is about the same although I havent compared them side by side.

Thanks Diva...

Just got back from Radio Shack and messed with a demo they had. The 8100 is a thick little phone isn't it? May have to modify my current belt case to handle the extra thickness. Not much more so than my piggy 5350, but noticeable and this was an issue since I have found the perfect horizontal belt case , and I hate to lose it.

Guy at RS said that he has not seen one Sanyo return yet, and that everybody is really happy with the phone. Quality seemed much better than LG and just seemed more solidly built. the LG is kind of flimsy IMO.

The only thing that keeps me from buying one is the camera, which I still think is the ultimate foo-foo gadget on a cell phone. If the phone offered Bluetooth, that would be cool, but I may never even use the camera so it may be a moot point.

I will probably end up with one for the cool factor alone though...

Both phones are great. It just depends on whether or not you want a camera.

I had just gotten the 5350 and returned it for the Sanyo 8100. Reception wise, both are good phones, but the Sanyo has much better battery life. I think the LG has actually more features (The Camera aside that is) but the sanyo sure feels a lot more sturdy and well made.

My God... Another HOFO user in Denton? I thought i was the only one! =)

Cheers,
Dan

I had the LG 5350 for 5 days, and then I found out that the Sanyo 8100 was coming out and decided to return it for that. I had also returned it because I was having the same problem that others where having with the phone turing off and on with out doing anything even in the middle of a call. The reception and the clarity of the call is better on the Sanyo and as well as the battery like the guy before said. But the LG did have more futures, and it was easier to read the key pad (with the 8100, the key pad does not light up very well, and I can’t see some of the letters when on the net). I think when it comes down to it; both phones are great, but the 8100 if far more sexy then the 5350.

Welllll...just got off the phone with Sprint CS and after much negotiating and being put on "hold", I finally got a deal on an 8100. I had to upgrade to a vision plan, and sign a new 2-year contract, but I got a great concession on the phone. They ordered the phone for me, and I should get it in a couple of days.

Anybody want to buy a slightly used LG5350 for cheap?

Only if you gave me the phone, and paid me for my Sprint service.

Seriously the 8100 will blow away anything LG will ever put out IMO. LGs are cheaply made, and have numerous problems & poor reception. The 5350 is Sprint's version of the Verizon's VX4400, which I had. I disliked it so much, it was one of the worst cell phone I ever used. I just picked up my 8100 yesterday and it is simply awesome, even without the camera it still would be awesome.

Hey, thanks for the offer!!

Actually the 5350 has been a great phone for me, with excellent reception and sound quality. I have had no problems whatsoever.
The quality of construction is kind of flimsy, but it's not like the phone is a total throwaway. I actually dropped it from above waist level on concrete once (freaked me out!!! ) with it open, and it only sustained minor scratches on the earpeice/cover. Amazing!!

I actually only want the Sanyo for better build quality, and because I have gotten tired of my current phone. I can't see that I will use the camera very often (I have a Canon S230 for that...), but it might be fun once in awhile. We'll see...

Whats wrong with VX4400? The majority of the Verizon people are saying its the best phone in their lineup.

ConceptVBS - The one I had wouldn't ring if someone called me from there cell, it would go directly into voice mail. While if they called me from a landline my phone would always ring. And the voice mail indicater beeped only once. So I if you missed the beep or did not hear it, you would not know about any missed calls untill you looked at your phone. Also it had trouble holding on to a signal. During my calls I could see the indicator go from 5 to 0 bars, and my calls would fluctuate from this quite regularly. And there were a few other little bugs I found with the phone. And no this was not a network issue. Since January I used a V60i, T720, V120e also, and had no trouble receiving calls or with reception with the other phones. I would say Verizon's best phone is the V60i, its by far the most dependable. Go dig around in the LG forum for a while. You will start to see how many bugs this phone realy has.

Well, go check out this site: http://electronics.cnet.com/electro...4-1318-20811920

More people seems to be satisfied than unsatisfied. I guess you were the exception.

ConceptVBS - As far as cell phones go. The last place I would check is CNET. Most of those people wouldn't know if a phone had bugs, even if those bugs bit them in there arse. These forums are much better, I can get thr real scoop on phones. Most people on these forums are much more knowledgeable. Yes, the VX4400 is Verizon's most popular phone, but not there most reliable IMO.

Just got my 8100 after ALL DAMN DAY on the phone with various Sprint CS folks. Although it was a day that will stand out in infamy, I am really jazzed by the phone itself !! MUCH better quality construction than my 5350, better sound quality, reception (so far...) and feels much better in my hand. Only real problem is the thickness. A little thicker than my LG was which will probably necessitate the use of another type of case than I was using , and that I had grown to like so much.

Oh well...

But overall, I'm very glad I made the purchase. The fact that I still consider a camera in a phone to be a pure marketing ploy does not take away from the feeling that I got a great phone for the money...camera or not!!
