AT&T Treo 680 Update 2.11 -- mp3 Ringtones?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The Palm support page lists one of the updates in the new firmware as:

"Enhanced ringtone support – MP3 and other sound files purchased from the web or sent from friends can now be set as ringtones and alerts. Supported ringtone formats include MP3, AAC, AAC+, MIDI, WAV, and AMR."

But how do you set mp3s as ringtones? Has anyone done this successfully? If so, how?

Thanks!

Works fine on my treo 680s. Just a note to make sure that the auido file isnt too big or have a really high/variable bitrate or you can experience latency in the incommin call notification and get shorted a ring or two. Dont use anything higher than 128kbps for that speaker aint going to do anything above that anyways.

Are you referring to minitones or just Palm? If you're doing it without minitones, how did you do it?

If you download an mp3 file on the web, or have one MMSed to you, the update will allow you to save it as a ringtone. I've tried it with some mp3 files on a site and it works, minitone not required.

but if your cheap like i am on data or you cant find the mp3 ringtone you want, but you have the mp3 song, than minitone is the way to go..

For those with no data plans (what?!?) and a SD card: Use your computer to get ringtones, and copy them to your SD card. After the 2.11 update, you can import .mp3 files from your SD card into your phones ringtone list. It's very similar to the instructions for importing MIDI files from your SD card, from the Palm KB:
http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEB...19349)#download
Using the built-in web browser, browse to the .mp3 file you want to use as your ring tone.
