HTC Touch battery life, sms bubble, contact questions

Hello,

well I finally got my HTC touch from Rogers. It is a nice PDA but as far as the phone goes, I find it not as user friendly as I thought it would be specially when doing simple tasks such as using the device for phone and sms.

anyways.. I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could help me with them.

1. The battery life on this brand new Touch is EXTREMELY short. Per the instruction manual, I charged the battery fully for over 3 hrs before using it. I was surprised that on the first day I got about 2 hours of battery life before the low battery alert cam on!!! I hardly used it for telephone and basically used it to browse through its features. I charged the phone overnight and today which is the second day of its use, by 5PM it was almost 15% battery life remaining. I hardly used it for voice calls and I sent about 6-7 SMSs.
OK the bluetooth is ON and backlight is set to the original default values.

Did I get a lemon battery?

2. When receiving SMSs it shows the entire message in a bubble. I find it annoying cause if you leave your phone on a desk, anyone passing by can read the content of the sms without actually opening it. I have searched all over the net and havent found a tool or a way to disable this.

3. I also logged into Windows Messenger on the Touch.. it asked me if I wanted to add all the contacts and I said YES (what a mistake!! LOL) Now I have ended up with 200 useless MSN contacts in my phonebook. How do I get rid of these without going one by one and clicking menu, then clicking DELETE. Is there a way to clean up the SIM contacts as well as these added contacts?

Many thanks in advance.

for #2:

Settings, Sounds and Notifications, Notifications, Event: Messaging: New text message

Uncheck "Display message on screen"

Is WiFi on also? WiFi and Bluetooth are real battery drainers. If your not actively using them your better off turning them off.

Is this a problem b/c you actually have THAT many contacts in your hotmail account? Or what?

I only use my hotmail for the purpose of MSN ONLY, so I may only have 20 contacts. It can't pull in more contacts then you have right.

wow! OutPhase! u have out done yourself! thanks for the tip!
about msn contacts, over the years I have added some 200 people on there obviously 99% of them do not have phone numbers attached to them so I rather not have them in my cell phone contact list. Any way to manage all the contacts on a PC? also need to clean up and merge few from the SIM..
Seems like it is creating a new entry for every phone number. On the old regular cell phones I could have same name with different phone numbers (work, home, cell) but now it is just a pain to sort them out and manage them properly.

thanks for all the great suggestions

What you can do about the MSN contacts is
1) either update the rom to a newer rom (which will void your warranty, but you can always revert back to the orginal later). Check out www.xda-developers.com for that
2) Install a new version of MSN Messenger (over @ XDA as well) which has that MSN contact thing disabled..

make sure WIFI amd Bluetooth is off, take your backlight down a bit and ur SMS bubble has already been answered

Enjoy the touch, sweet looking phone, I got a tytn myself but i like small and the touch would have been my next choice..only thing I don't like is that it is TRI-Band instead my quad-band TyTN

Easy fix mate...

Start... Programs... Windows Live...Menu... Account Options... Switch Windows Live ID.

All you have to do is add your exact same ID and DO NOT check the contacts button this time.

VOILA!!!!

does anyone know how i can synchronize my outlook contacts with the Touch? I uploaded a list of contacts I exported from gmail and realized that many of them are blanks.. almost 100 of them but I cleaned it up via excel and would like to copy them over to the Touch and replace the blank contacts.
