I've used a program to convert avi files to mp4 but when I drag and drop them into the video section in itunes it won't accept them. When I play them with Quicktime it say something like "bad atom" found.

Currently I have WinXMedia AVI?MPEG iPod Converter. It's running Transformer as we speak, if I'm lucky it will allow me to add it to my iphone. This is currently running on XP the others were converted on Vista.

You probably best to use something that actually converts video specifically to iPhone/iPod formats like Videora or Quicktime or Handbrake.

**EDIT** Nvm, it looks like WinXMedia does do that. Not sure what the issue is then. Be sure you have it set to output iPhone compatible files.

the output format I chose was "iPod Video (mp4)" I mean what could be simpler??? But it won't get accepted by itunes.

I have Vista Premium Home and have no problems converting DVD or other types of files. I'm using *********** iPhone Video Conversion Suite.

For some reason, Videora wasn't able to convert full length movies for playback on my iTouch (which I'm assuming is pretty much an iPhone, without the phone part). I got the "bad atom" error when I try to playback using apple quicktime as well. Even tagger didn't work on fixing the files. What did work though was passing it through mp4box using YAMB. I use xvid4psp (ignore the name, it has profiles for other stuff too, including iPhone/iTouch) and the movies work every time. The official site for the program should be the first link in a google search. Hope that helps.

Try using a different application.

I hate having to separate the sound and video within the file. I've got several of my favorite TV shows as divx files but I can't play them. It made sense after I imported a music video and tagged it as such. Now the video also shows up in the music playlists allowing me to just listen to it like any other mp3 rather than play the video.
