You may need to cut the desired file into a 15-30 second section. Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and download the sound editor, Version 1.2.6.

Next, you'll need to convert the mp3 file to wav. Go here for a converter: http://www.etalonsoft.com/mp3decode.html
Then go to http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/downloads.html

Go to Converters and download "Wave to SMAF Converter (WSC-MA2-SMAF)"

Download and install the converter. Open the converter and drag and drop the desired wav file onto the blue box. Hit the button and viola! your new .mmf file is in the same folder the original wav file was in. Upload to phone, etc.

You can then use it as a "My Alert Tone". It's under the profile settings, the one with the mailbox. Menu / Settings / Profiles / Normal, select Edit / New Message / Message alert tone, Change --> 2. Use My Alert Tone / Select desired file.

You can also use them for specific people in your address book. Select the entry, Edit, Options, 4. Add More Fields and scroll left to Message Tone / Select / Special Tone. Then select desired tone.
