BlackJack II or Moto Q9h

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well I have had a BlackJack for about 6 months now. Its ben great and now that 3G has been active in my area its even better. The only thing that has been bad about it is that the phone started acting up after the 3G launch. Its stated to not load web pages in Internet Explorer. Once this happens none of the data features work. It was really not a hassle at first then it got more frequent. So I got my phone replaced under warranty. I have now had that phon about a week and now its started again.

So now when I call AT&T support nest week I think Im going to ask for a different phone. Im looking at the new Moto Q9h and ofcourse the BlackJack II. Im going to go to my local store and try tem both out. Any pros and cons right off the bat? Any thoughts, good and bad about either phone?

Thanx in advance.

Moto Q 9h

1. Very good phone...signal quality good...easy to use...no problem using outdoors in sunlight ...great speaker volume...voice command excellent

2. Key board..probably the best on any phone I've used

3. Very good battery life...especially using the extended battery

4. GPS..great to have one always with you

My requirements have always been that I need a phone first and pda second.

Overall, as close to perfect for my use as any phone made today.

This thread is unnecessary. Look down the list and you'll already see that there is a BJ2 vs. Q9h thread.

If you cant contribute to the thread why post at all.

the poster is being helpful in not cluttering up a forum that already discusses the very issue youre asking about

you don't even have to do a search, just look at a couple of recent pages. this way, when someone else wants to do a search on BJII vs. Motol Q9, they don't get 100s of threads talking about the same thing. so you're not gonna get any replies on something that has already been talked to death.

Thank you Outrigger and s4iscool.

I don't have much experience with Howardforums. I spent most of the last few years on pdaphonehome.com, and when someone created an identical thread, one of the moderators would lock the redudant thread (in our case, this thread), because it clutters an already cluttered forum. I haven't determined yet how active the moderators are on Howardforums.

Ohhh you'll learn. Muhahahahhaha. And go for the BK II. My best friend has the Q9 and it is to wide for my taste. Plus its Moto...

Not trying to be a moron, but I honestly see like three similar threads and I didn't leave the first page. The main one I see is : AT&T Q9 Global v.s. AT&T BlackJack-II

Does Howard Forums have a moderator to lock redundant threads like this one?

Can the phone nazis PISS OFF and just answer the mans question, seriously?

Christ.

My vote goes to the Q9, bud. Just an all around more solid device, IMO.

The width of the Q9 was a turnoff for me too, but the more I read the more it seemed like the Q9 had all the features that I wanted.

The kicker was that on the BJ2 it asks you to press a button every time you activate your bluetooth headset. It's cold, your phone is in your coat pocket, you put on your headset and then have to dig out the phone to authorize YET AGAIN that you want to use your headset... err, no thanks.

After 1 week I'm already over the width of the phone. And it's hard enough to type on the Q9, I can only imagine typing on the smaller BJ2 keyboard. But the BJ2 seems to be a good phone too and I'm not ripping it, but it wasn't for me.

Your not going to last too long here with your attitude. I'd watch it if you want to stick around here.

I apologize if I came off with an attitude. That wasn't my intention. I was really just interested learning the answer to my question. Given the harsh reaction, I'm completely dropping the topic and you won't hear from me again on this issue. Again - apologies.

By the way, to add my $0.02 on the read topic at hand, I've owned the BJ2 for a couple of weeks now. I'm extremely happy with it, especially coming from the buggy Samsung i730. I haven't owned the Q9h, but I've used it in a store and I believe I have a fairly good handle on its strengths/weaknesses. Rather than provide a full blown list of the pros and cons of each device, I'll share some observations which have been very important to me:

1. I love the form factor of the BJ2. It's just wide enough that it's not uncomfortable to hold in one hand. I can easily dial a phone number using only my right hand. I had to strain uncomfortably to dial right handed with the Q9h. I also think the BJ2 is a slicker looking device, but that's just my personal opinion. I have the red one, so fingerprints aren't a huge problem due to the textured back side.
2. Screen is a little washed out on the default blue background compared with the Q9h, but changing the default colors from blue to red ("guava") made a huge difference, so I have no complaint here now.
3. I like the Q9h keyboard a lot better. There is a lag when typing on the BJ2 keyboard and it sometimes misses keystrokes when I type very quickly.
4. I wish the BJ2 came with built in voice dialing and autotext complete like the Q9h has.
5. Battery life has been pretty good on the BJ2 (I comfortably get 1 day with heavy use), but I understand that battery life is pretty similar on the Q9h, even though the BJ2 has a much larger standard battery.
6. Call quality has been great on the BJ2 and talk time is amazing. Phonearena tested talk time and got 9 hours and 12 minutes. That's unbelievable, in my opinon. I understand the Q9h also has great call quality, so it's a toss up.

In summary, I think both devices are excellent and AT&T customers should be thrilled that they have both of these options at their disposal. Even though I like the BJ2 and I'm 90% sure I'm keeping it, I still think the Q9h is a better built device. For me, the form factor of the BJ2 gave it a slight edge for me. I think for most people, this will be the deciding factor. The Q9h is a little more feature rich and has a better keyboard - those who are willing to put up with a little extra width, the Q9h will probably be the device for them.

I hope this is helpful and I apologize for the consternation I created with my whining in the previous posts.

Completely off the topic (somewhat) question:

Has WM6 gotten better with handling email? I have a blackberry curve with BBSmart installed which makes the HTML email readable.
When I had my Treo 750, it took all day for emails to download and I would sometimes stop the download as it would hang up the phone.
Not talking about huge emails either...

Right now, looking to save a few bucks per month and the GPS and other features are swaying me back to WM vs BB...

I do Direct Push on BJ2 and all my emails arrive immediately. They're available on my device before they're available on my laptop. I've been pleasantly surprised.
