Got iPhone from brother, how to make it my own.

My brother got an iphone when they came out, but didn't like it. So he traded me for a phone I was using. How do I set up the iphone to work for me now? I tried to stick my sim card in it, and it says, "wrong sim detected" or something of that nature.

If you have (or want) an AT&T account, then all you need to do is download iTunes on your computer, run it, and plug the iPhone in. iTunes should do the rest for you.

If you don't want AT&T, then you'll need to unlock the iPhone. There's a whole subforum that discusses that and give you info on how to do it. I don't recommend it unless you know what you're doing though.

I have AT&T. The sim card I have is a cingular card, think I need a new one to work with the iphone, or should it not matter?

have you tried hooking it up to itunes yet with your sim in it?

Just restore it without backing it up.

Yeah, I found out how. Once I erased the phone, then reinstalled 1.1.2, it came back up wanting to be activated.
