Currently, R2F is a version only designed for Vodafone.

The differences may be provisioner settings.

Hey Guys,

How do one upgrade the firmware on the P800? Has anyone done this, other than via SE?? Are there any issuses (from the phone itself or from SE) with the upgrades if the phone is from another country? eg. Uk phone used and owned in Canada or US phone used and owned in Canada?

thanks,
AfF.

See the third posting in this thread. VirtualDynamix in Mission Viejo CA is an excellent service center for firmware upgrades and other accessories. I'm lucky enough to be able to drive to the location. Others have mailed their phones in from across the country with very quick turn-around - shipped out late afternoon and back the morning of the second day. My reading of many postings on this forum indicate that the new firmware does not care about the origin of the phone. Mine is from the UK and works perfect with the firmware loaded at VD (I've upgraded twice) Just be sure not to do a full restore of your backup when you get the phone back. There can be issues of certain new firmware related files being overwritten by the older versions contained in the backup. There are other threads on this forum on how to backup and restore contact and calendar entries only. I reload my phone with everything each time I upgrade.

Hi BVH,

Thanks very much for your attention and replay.

I was not very clear with one of my questions so I will ask it again. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware of the P800 by ourself? I do realize that the OS for this phone is a lot more complex than almost anyother phones but that does not mean the firmware upgrade procedure is also more complex (perhaps a lot longer to complete but it should not be more complex).

Thanks again,
AfF.

Currently, you can not upgrade the P800 phone yourself.

Rickpaul,

Don’t mean to offend anyone but;
If you go to any official Panasonic sources, for example, they say the same thing about their GD88 (or any other Panasonic phones) but I’ve successfully upgraded the firmware by myself several time now. Phone unlocking is another one of those hot topics that manufacturers/distributors will have you believe that it is also not possible to do. I am quite surprise that nobody here has looked into upgrading the firmware for SE phones (especially when they are well known to be buggy) without the blessings from SE. I guess we are just a bunch of better-behaved followers (sorry, users) than the rest.

There are hacks for other (non P800) SE phones that allow for self firmware upgrades, and a lot of people here have used them. Many of those people have damaged their phones in the process.
