no copy in sent folder with imap?

Im using an ATT Tilt with WM6 and I have it setup with an imap account. Everything works fine except that it wont save a copy of sent messages to the sent folder. The sent folder is a subfolder of the inbox. I also have the setting checked to save a copy in the sent folder. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm gonna bump this old (unanswered) post, rather than create a new one.

I have the same issue as well, using the HTC s720 on Telus. Business MS Exchange email works perfectly, however my personal email running on the IMAP protocol does not work. I can send and receive, but copies of sent mail are not saved. Also, mail deleted on the phone does not sync with the Trash folder on my mail server.

I'm thinking this is a Windows Mobile limitation. Anyone know of any workarounds?

Having the exact same problem with gmail IMAP as I posted here. In my own case mail deleted on the phone deletes it from the server too. It's gone! Not even in the trash.

Same issue here with the sent folder.. can't figure that one out. When using outlook on the desktop, there is a setting for this. No such setting that I can find on the mobile.

Regarding the deleting from the server.... that is setting you can change. For IMAP the default setting is to keep the phone sync'd with the server, so if you delete from your phone you delete from the server. That the premise of IMAP.

If you want to change that behavior... On the main messaging screen highlight the email account you want changed and select "Menu", then "Settings". Keep hitting "Next" until you get to the "Automatic Send/Receive" screen. On that screen select "Advanced Settings". On the "Advanced Settings" screen, change the "When deleting messages:" to "Keep them on the server". The default for IMAP is "Delete them off the server".

peaster111, I am aware of that setting and that's how I have it. "keep on Server" However, it still gets deleted totally. I just verified again to make sure I have it as "keep on Server" when deleting messages.

I'll just use gmail pop primarily. And use imap if I really need to.

Yeah, mine is set to "Keep them on the server" as well.

The workaround I've found for deleting messages is to MOVE them to the Trash folder. That seems to work; i.e. it gets them out of the Inbox, but still keeps a copy on the server.

Still no workaround for sent mail, though.

Solution discovered!!

I logged into my mail management webpage, and on the folders page I noticed a section where I could "Subscribe" to folders... and the Sent Items and Deleted Items folders were marked as Unsubscribed. I moved them over to the Subscribed side, and it seems to be working!

Emails sent from the phone are now saved in a folder on the server called "Sent Items." I can then manually move those items from "Sent Items" to "Sent" and have everything sync on my desktop client. Same for "Deleted Items" moved to "Trash."

Huzzah!

Sweet... I'll try that. ...too many settings. You think they'd simplify things. I find it strange that we would need to manually set something that should be that way by default.

Thanks for the solution!
