HTC Tilt (Japan) 3G setting help

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got the tilt a few weeks ago to replace my crap phone in the US and having to rent a phone everytime I'm in Japan (often). Now I'm renting a sim card from (Pictell phone rentals)

It's with Softbank/vodafone

Phone has voice no prob but the 3G is all messed up. Can't go on internet or do SMS/MMS

I don't know what I would set for internet and what do set for MMS for a "server". Didn't realize how "detailed" it would be to have WM6 phone overseas

I tried these settings and it semi works but no data

I tried this from softbank User name(ID): ai@softbank (Single-byte alphanumeric characters)
Password: softbank (Single-byte alphanumeric characters)
Access point: For packet communication : *99# ---is that for Access Point Name?
DNS server: Set to "Obtain an IP address from DNS server automatically"

I get emails but can't download them now

here is what I found on TyTn figured it would be the same, the net before... Still doesnt work and when I try sending a MMS with the settings it tells me forbidden

Rented my sim from Softbank counter for my Kaiser and everything (3G voice/data/sms) works fine. Voice/sms settings come from the sim, and MMS/data comes from the HTC Network wizard. Are you sure you're signed up for data because my rental doesn't technically come with it.

I didn't have to do any setting as you've detailed. Only scanned xda for "other" Softbank data settings.

I don't know why you're setting up Outlook email.

Your APN should probably be: open.softbank.ne.jp, not *99#. I heard the password for Softbank flat-rate did change and it's unknown now.

I've never had a problem in the past. I'm here at least 2x a yr, but this is my first time with the HTC/unlock phone form the states.

It didn't have any settings on the sim card just the voice network. Nothing for MMS settings or 3G.

I called them and they won't help because not a softbank phone plus their dumb as hell in Japan with support (IT is my field).

i've done all sorts of settings already. I read things changed, people are cooking their ROMS but that won't help me.
