blackjack II jumps around from GPRS TO EDGE all the time?

I browsed quickly so hopefully nobody has discussed this so i dont get flamed... but

has anyone noticed this on their blackjack II? my original blackjack never did this or my blackberry. Also it is not just in the same service area. to places i have traveled also. I havnt been anywhere that has 3G service so its not related to that. But it will switch back to GPRS all the time randomly off and on when there is a strong edge signal.

anyone experience anything similar?, or know what to do?

its just a visual glitch. its still in EDGE mode but for some reason it shows a G instead sometimes

this has been discussed elsewhere and as SHoTTa35 stated, it appears to be a glitch with the icon and not an actual connection issue. Several people have tested this, including myself, and while the "G" icon was displayed got an over 160K data connection.

most of my att phones do it.

I just got the Blackjack II and have the same issue. Does anyone know of a fix for this?? Mine jumps back and forth so often you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. Sometimes I miss calls due to this.

as was said, it's just a visual glitch, this doesn't cause you to miss calls, if your signal is weak that's what causes you to miss calls.

Sounds logical but is not true. Often my signal jumps from full signal on Edge to the questionable Gprs signal it goes down to a very low signal & I have missed calls (I tested this several times). It is not just a visual glitch. But yes, you are correct my signal is very weak when I miss the call. Why is it weak when I get almost always a full signal when it says E. It should not be jumping like that to a lower signal and it does make a difference in my reception.
Love the phone & will put up with this but it is annoying.

I just got one two days ago and noticed the same thing. However, I buy the visual glitch thing, because I did a speed test when it was showing G and got 180kb, where I should have probably gotten 30k or so if it was really GPRS. 180 is the range I have seen in the past here for Edge.

Just another voice to lend support to the GUI glitch.

I just got one of these last week, and my trusty G is showing while Slingplayer's "zooming" video to me at 120-160kbps. (Can't wait until that's a "3G" I'm seeing...)

I mentioned this issue to a rep on AT&T's online support chat, and that "there's a rumor going around that it's a GUI issue".
She told me that there's no report of this graphical display issue, and that it sounds like a device issue... and to take the thing back for a free replacement before my 30 days was up! Gotta love that commitment to the product.

(As I'm finishing this post, I'm now seeing an "E" and Slingplayer has actually slowed down to 90-110kbps)

So, is it a glitch that only effects a few, and it should be replaced, or is it just a case of the AT&T rep not knowing what she's talking about?

don't know what they are talking about. The glitch happens to every one i've seen. Still waiting for a firmware update to fix that i guess.

Sadly I'd say it's the latter...

We have 3 of these now and they showed a random combination of G or E when sitting right next to each other. All had comparable download speed at the time.

I've learned to ignore it.

Mine does it all the time. It was annoying at first but I have learned to ignore it too. Still misleading though. I love my BJ II but I am starting to fall out of that love.

you think the newest sim would help?
