So does anyone know what brand(s) are being used in the new deployments?

Ericsson and Nokia on the West Coast. Neither can keep up with production, hince the slow rollout.

the slow 3G rollout is due to lack of vendor hardware production schedule? i've never heard that before.

That and the lack of qualified techs was the answer I got from an actual ATT person who posted in an LA/Orange county 3G roll out thread that seems to have disappeared.

really doesn't seem suprising about the lack of man power for some reason.

So-Cal (L.A. area at least) is all Ericsson gear, AFAIK.

There are currently only three Ericsson UMTS techs in So Ca due to lack of work. The first 850 overlay was prepped last Friday and now waiting on radios and filters. 2008 will be crazy for the whole year with Att and TMO both using Ericsson in California. Different radios and filters but cabinets are the same. Most of the Canyon sites, that are fiber fed remotes are or have been upgraded with new Andrews remotes and are now UMTS ready. New UMTS software on a weekly basis. The first few dual technology cabinets have been converted, was GSM only now GSM/UMTS in same footprint, it's and all day/night job but it fits the bill in locations were space is non exsistant. The conversion kit was way behind schedule. The exsisting alarms at site had been on the TDMA/AMPS equipment and since there is no sense rushing things, NOW they are scrambling to move them over to UMTS. Go figure.
