Best AT&T phone to sell...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am about to sign up with AT&T and plan to get a free phone or one under $50. I will upgrade to the Iphone after a week, but figure if I can get a free phone to sell on Ebay to help pay for the Iphone, why not?

I am thinking of purchasing the Blackjack since it's price has gone down and it's a smartphone. Any suggestions? I want to get the best phone for resale.

Why not wait until the updated iPhone comes out in 2008? It is rumored to have 3G. The problem with your scheme is that anyone can get a Blackjack at the same price you can. Why should they pay you a premium price?

thats a good plan. it will work because there are tons of people out there who want a new phone, but arent upgradeable. if i were you, i would pay to get it unlocked first. that way you could also sell it to tmobile customers

There is a $100.00 mail in rebate to get the price down to $49.99. You have to get $150.00 plus the eBay fees just to break even. There is not that great an aversion to signing new contracts. People do it all the time to get the phone they want at a discounted price.

if you get the phones from att.com then you might want to use this $50 off promo code and that will get you another $50 in your pocket. Good luck and nice thinking

You have to keep the phone longer before you sell it. That puts off longer the purchase of the iPhone. Then there is the data or messaging plan to qualify for the rebate in the first place. All of those things reduce the future value of money.

So you pay either $40.00 or $80.00 plus two months of voice to collect the $100.00 mail in rebate. It would be better to sell the phone right away and forego the rebate unless you need to use the phone because you cancelled your previous service.

why would he have to keep it? just mail the rebate immediately and sell the phone. also, he will need data plan anyway for the iphone. just that yes, i think blackjack is 40 and iphone is 20 dollars for internet unlimited.

i was thinking of doing the same thing. totally forgot i've been off contract since last spring, upgraded to the iphone when it was first released, sold it, and am using something else. figured i could upgrade to something else since i already signed up for a 2-year contract in july and straight sell it on ebay since ATT offers nothing i'd use.
i planned on going with the blackjack or SE W580

i did this a couple of years ago and i actually made $150.00 on a nokia flip at the time. i'm thinking about doing it again in a month or two in order to make at least 150 otherwise it is not worth the hassle.
being tied into a contract with att is not as bad as if you were commited to tmo or sprint. you know with att you're getting the best of all worlds. 3g, gsm, etc. so i didn't really mind being in a contract, plus the fact that the past 2 years have come and gone mighty fast.
i'm thinking the lg shine is bringing in a preety penny right now, ss, fashionable phone people that are no hofoers go for and don't mind paying the money since it is still somewhat new.

As previously stated, the required data plans do affect your rebate, and sending off your form immediately doesn't guarantee an immediate rebate. If you purchase a PDA or smartphone, the required data for rebate is usually higher. Rebates often take about two months to process. That's about $40 lost right there.

Also consider you can get refurbished phones that look brand new for cheap as hell on craigslist or shops in the mall.

IOW: I wouldn't invest money in something you don't want and expect a profit.
