iPhone ended my phone addiction

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i have to say that the iphone has been such a great phone there havent been any i've wanted to change to. its like ive finally settled down because there isnt a phone cooler or better then the iphone i love it. when the next iphone comes out i'll probably get it but still its been six months since it came out and thats the longest i've kept a phone!

ok this was random but i thought i'd come on here and post after 6 months of not doing it

Posted by: rklosinski

same here. i was a windows mobile man since the first imate sp3. I just sold my touch after 3 months of using my iphone, and with the sdk coming in feb, Im sure it will have everything I would ever need.

What I like the most is the iphone's ease of use. WM phones give me a headache after a while of usage.

Posted by: Dammit2Hell

I migrated from an 8525 with wm6 and I love the iPhone. I kept the old phone but I don't see me using it unless some thing happens to this one.

Posted by: Rockky

I know kind of a bummer... No more new device fix.
Been thru every treo, windows mobile (Tilt etc)... And for now the game is just over!

Posted by: jamkam

Been hemming and hawing a while, then, I finally dropped the hint for Xmas to my wife and didn't think she's bite...but she did. Funny, it's cool when you try it out in the store but when you get it home it's really rather marvelous, despite all the oft-mentioned limitations (lack of video, MMS, c&p etc.). Hopefully much of that will be patched soon, but for now, I'm loving it. The only thing I'd say it WON'T cure is an addiction for e-mail on the move. That's where crackberrys rule, but they can have it, frankly. I enjoy the ease of use and net access WYSIWG FAR more than I did on the BB.

Posted by: elwuero

Good to know I am not the only one. I was buying a new phone every month or so - it was getting bad. I didnt realize it had been six months until now that I read this. I just hadnt thought about it.

Thanks Apple you saved my marriage.

Posted by: indianboi313

yeah man im with you here
i bought one every 2-3 weeks and spent about 2000-4000 bucks on phones before i bought my iphone. as soon as i bought it, i loved it! i tried going back to other phones, but i just couldnt, as i loved the touch screen and real internet access.

it saves me money, and i love it. its a Win-Win!

Count me into this group - I was changing Nokia's every month or two hoping the next one would be "better." Tried the Treo, but even on Sprint's fast network it was a lame device to use for web browsing and more of a chore than a pleasure. Windows mobile made me come the closest ever to smashing a phone; couldn't find an appointment location that I was late for and the phone just froze. I wanted to stomp it with my foot over and over again, damming it to hell, but I knew that to get something else it would have to go to ebay. So it survived that day, and was on ebay the next.

But now, I haven't event bothered with other phones. I'm really pleased with the iphone, and like others here, it has replaced casual web browsing & email use from my work laptop, which I tend to leave at work.

Posted by: sconnoll

same with me....i first bought the iphone back on july 1st...but took it back because of the very simple things a free phone does which is why i kept my alltel during the 14day trial period of the iphone.

heres what i went thru and tell me if you are worse than me :

alltel motorola krzr
iphone new acct did not port returned after 8 days cause of mentioned above
back to krzr
Motorola Q took it back after 3days..windows mobile blows
back to the krzr
Motorola V9m nice phone battery life sukd
back to the krzr
Motorola Rokr returned after 13days
Blackberry pearl (still alltel) returned after 1 week (wow is this phone so kmart)

finally i was convinced i kept trying to hack all these other phones with photos, movies, pictures and music.

Won an iphone at work and ported over and could not be happier to be back with the iphone. Im a heavy mac user so it made sense...Also all day at my job i focus on selling apple products. So user friendly its not even funny..pros out weigh the little cons that i found myself not using anyway.

sorry for the long post but its been a long six months and i am finally satisfied...till the next gen iphone comes out...

I thought I was the same way, but I just got the itch to try the blackberry 8310 with gps. I also just started to get bored with the iphone. Figure I can sell my iphone now and get a good price and probably in 6 months to a year we will see an iphone with gps which I will purchase.

Posted by: plz_kill_me

I can relate. Mobile devices were my main interest before I purchased the iPhone. Now, I couldn't care less.
I'm not even that excited about an iPhone 2.
Hell-- I haven't even visited the forum in ages.
I used to spend the majority of my time frequenting various forums and tech blogs; -----ing 3rd party applications; calling into CC-- inquiring about new devices.

Peace of mind is so liberating.

Add me to this group. Addicted to cured. Doctor's orders "Take 1 iPhone and call me in the morning".

Posted by: slickNsxy

I came from the treo and before that the 8125 and before that the crackberry. Personally I'm a huge fan of the blackberry at all. I hatedthat stupid scroll wheel on the side. But did like the keyboard. Got sick of sliding the 8125 ip and down every time I needed to an entry or text. Treo 750 was nice and was content enough not to rush iPhone on its official release. But sync with my mac was all jacked up. Internet and text plans waaaay to expensive. Then iPhone came into play thsnx to my lady and her loving heart. After the day I activated everything. I haven't been researching any other phone at all. iPhone FTW!!!

Posted by: dsigma6

I've looked into other phones, but it was really to see if they could compare to the iPhone (they can't).

**** MMS and whatever else people complain about. This is the best platform I've ever used.

Posted by: feverfive

Yep...the iPhone is like the proverbial hot chick you hook-up with---no other gal can compare, so the wandering eye is no more!! Spending ~$420 USD (incl tax) to buy my iPhone will save me money. I figure over the last 18 months, prior to purchasing iPhone), I spent $1,730 USD on 4 different unlocked phones. I've sold 2 of those, but at a huge loss each time (I only sell locally). Anyhow, my infatuation w/ the iPhone might be good for my pocketbook...at least until Apple comes up w/ a substantial upgrade--hopefully not in at least another year (3G doesn't count, IMO)...

The iPhone has cured me of my Treo fixation. There are things that Treos do better, but for the most part, compared to the iPhone, Treos are delicate and unreliable devices using technology first mentioned in the Book of Judges.

Posted by: marktang

iphone is really nice to use but it doesnt have everything i did still. i got bored with the iphone in like 2 months and i have hacked that thing till u cant hack it anymore. the main thing i need is to view and edit microsoft office documents so iphone doesnt do for me.

That's brutal on ANY phone. Get a laptop.

Posted by: marktang

hahah i do have a laptop. im not going to bring out my laptop when im on the bus or something. so a phone is good i can edit stuff on the go

Posted by: BeyondTheTech

If you haven't read my article... here's what I went through before I ended up on an iPhone:
Quite a history, no?

Posted by: tony_hyder

you guys are lucky to even be able to get the iphone. Im from the dakotas and all we have here is verizon and alltel. otherwise i would have gotten the iphone over any phone any day. i too have been one that is not always satisfied with my phone there is always a bigger fish in the sea.

Posted by: Bigphun73

I too had a serious addiction to cell phones. I was big on the Motorolas and then on the WM phones. I had the razr when it first came out so it cost me an arm and a leg. I had some LGs. The one phone that I had out of all of those was the BlackJack. Well, on my birthday in October I finally went to get an iPhone as a present to myself. I must say that it was the best present I have ever gotten for my myself. I was trying out my cousin's Tilt and it just raffirmed that the iPhone has the best interface. The screen is better and the OS is much more responsive. There is not a phone out or coming out, IMO that can can beat the iPhone.

Posted by: anorthrnsoul

I liked the interface but I'm in Germany and after the "newness" wore off and I started missing the basic things I've become accustomed to using i.e. sending my friends mms, video calls, modern data speeds, removable storage, streaming audio, video and an up to date camera I went back to something else. I'm not knocking it at all, just isn't workable enough here yet. 3g, a non touch keypad option, increased rf performance and a bit of a price drop and I'll try them again. It's a lovely device but not quite there yet for me, hopefully soon...

I wasn't quite as bad as that, but I went through the same situation. I bought an iPhone launch day, and kept it for about a week and a half. I loved everything about it, but its few shortcomings are what made me return it. I had about 3 different phones from then until the end of July when I finally decided on a Blackberry Curve. I kept the curve until the beginning of November, and then went through a few different v3xx's. Mainly changed due to the fact I couldnt decide on a color. Even had the LG Traxx for a few days in there.

I finally decided to go back to what I loved and missed the most. The iPhone. I now have another one, and while I still dont like the few things that are missing, I am hoping that the issues will be addressed in the near future.

But the iPhone has saved my marriage too. I wont be switching anytime soon.

Well, until the iPhone 2 comes out. LOL!

anorthernsoul! I completely agree... I'm in the US with good ATT coverage. the Iphone's UI is absolutely the best going. The screen size is fabulous however it can't be my main phone! It doesn't do the things I most like to do unless I have a hotspot connection. Most wifi are locked these days and the public ones require you to sign up! So that's a lot of hooey. If they come out with 3g.. keep wifi.. streaming flash java etc. bluetooth all audio..GAME OVER.

Posted by: Jayden0606

I've had the iPhone from the weekend of the launch and returned for a 4GB as I thought I would never need all that space... I then got a brand new replacement 4GB and then sold it and bought the 8GB iPhone. I did recently purchase two BJ IIs, one for me & one for my g/f as back-up to the iPhone. We know we will never want another phone unless it meets or exceeds the standards that the iPhone has set forth.

The UI is not only simple, but quick and very responsive.

Apple has set the bar and until the other manufacturers can come up with a device that's as efficient and is a breeze like the iPhone to multi-task, they will remain in the dust.

Posted by: mcornelio1

You Bastards Better Be Telling The Truth!! I Just Put My Tilt On Ebay Hoping That I Too Will Also Lose My Phone Addiction!!! So Im Going Out And Buying An Iphone! If It Doesnt Stop Me From Spending 400 Dollars A Week On New Phones Im Def Going To Have To See A Shrink!

Posted by: sloan47

I guess I'm the odd man out here. In the past 8 years, I've owned a total of 4 phones (including the iPhone). I don't like to learn a new interface or key layout that often. I'm a functionality nut, so I'll use my phone til I can't use it anymore. I splurged on the iPhone simply because I wanted something better to browse the web on while I'm out and about.

Posted by: thadoggfather

iPhone didn't end my addiction to phones, but it definitely got me out of the trend of looking for new phones to switch up every couple of weeks

Posted by: Jayden0606

And yes... although I bought two BJ IIs, my addiction did slow down. If it didn't I would have bought every smartphone/PDA that came out after the iPhone except MOTO Q9-Global.

Posted by: rapolu

I tried iPhone twice... The UI is amazing, but I need the functionality like GPS, RF, Camera/Videos, VOIP, Loud Speakers, removable storage, 3G etc over UI. Hence got rid of iPhone.

Posted by: Gdog123

For what I need, the iPhone meets my needs for sure. I love being able to quickly check email at home, no matter where I am in the house. No more need to login to my laptop or computer. WYSIWYG internet is the best thing since sliced bread--going back to WAP internet is going to be blasphemous!

I'm one of the lucky minority to own an unlocked iPhone in Canada. You should see the reaction of some people when they realize they've spotted an iPhone...priceless, lol!

Posted by: 1906!

after having an 8525 and misc wm5 and 6 phones. I was used to upgrading, and often. Also, I love the iPhone with its limitations. My last purchase will prob be the 3g iPhone.

Posted by: jettie1767

The iPhone definitely stopped my switching phones every 3 to 6 months. I've had my iPhone since launch day and I still love it. Actually thinking of ditching this one for a new iPhone so that I can get rid of the scratches and dent on my current one...LOL. I do seem to like the BJ II but the smaller screen is a let down.

Posted by: KoukiFC3S

I had the Helio Drift, Ocean, HTC 8125, Mogul, and Touch but I hope that the iPhone will be my only phone for a while.

Posted by: That70sGAdawg

I went back to the Blackberry Curve twice, with a Tilt in between- but kept the iPhone, and now use it again!
Still waiting for a "to do" and "note" sync with Leopard!!

Posted by: mcdj

About once a week, for the past few years, I used to stop into a store here in NYC that sold hard to find imported unlocked phones, to drool over the latest and greatest Samsungs, Nokias, etc. When I got the iPhone in June, I went to the store and they said, "Well, we probably won't see you much now". I've been back maybe 3 times since then.

There are phones that have piqued my interest, but not enough to shelve the iPhone.

Wait till the SDK...in a couple months there will be a ton of 3rd party apps out there that will allow you to download and edit and upload these docs. Remember when Windows Mobile 5 phones had this problem? (I.E the Q etc) now they're able to do these things on the fly because of 3rd partyu apps.

Apple's iphone is about to get even better in the next few months! Can you imagine Operamini but for the iphone! I'm sure its coming as well...

As for me...its been about 3 weeks and going! I've taken this baby from 1.0.2 to 1.1.2 and am loving every minute of it! My battery life's incredible and my iphone does just about everything I need it to. Only thing I haven't done yet is try out the NES/PSX/Gameboy/Sega emulators...I'm sure I'll get around to downloading and video gaming but for now I'm enjoying my stressless life now that I've dumped windows mobile forever

She's like the girl you hooked up with that made your life a living hell...then you dump her for an even hotter chick but this chick has no baggage and for the moment you enjoy the nirvana because you're pinching yourself thinking how can this be...there's gotta be a catch...but then you find out there isn't....or maybe that's just me lol

Oh by the way, check out iphoneexplorer...google it...its a free download that allows you an easy way to manage your files and it works jailbroken or not by the way

LOL!
I too had many PDAs, Phones and SmartPhones before settling on iPhone. The only others worth a mention during this journey is Palm Tungsten T, Clie TH55 and HTC Magician.

Posted by: scolbert

I have to agree. Now that I have my iPhone, I am no longer jealous of any other phone. My wife got some verizon smartphone (vx6000?) with windows mobile and it just sucks (she had to get it for her work).

Posted by: tiguy99

Haha scolbert, what does she say about the iphone?

Posted by: crking1980

If you left the iphone where would you go next?

Posted by: tiguy99

Hell! Just playing Iphone 2 I guess
