V3re won't connect to (can't detect) AT&T network

I have an AT&T branded Motorola V3re

S/W ver R3442A_G_0E.43.08R
Flex ver GSTRAZR06ATT01NA0DE

I was trying to fix a problem with the voice mail indicator (it would show 1 VM even after I deleted it, then immediately after I delete the VM I would get the strange "^@" text message, over and over again). I attempted a SEEM edit but must have messed it up. The phone got stuck so it would turn on but not proceed beyond the "hellomoto" screen, so after several hours of trying to figure out a fix, I used Flash&Backup to restore the R3442A_G_0E.43.08R S/W. Now the phone starts up normally and gives me menus, etc. but cannot detect the AT&T network (or any network for that matter).

What have I done? And how do I fix it?

AT&T customer support, tech support and the local AT&T store were all shockingly unhelpful, though the latter did helpfully confirm that my SIM card worked properly (brilliant!).

Please help!!!!

I'm totally bumming.

That's odd that you wrote that you have an AT&T branded phone and yet you are getting the "^@" text messages (which means you have a voicemail btw). I only say odd because I have only seen this on Euro models.

Anyways, have you tried checking which band settings on the phone? You can put it as Automatic or 850/1900. After that, turn off your phone and turn on again and see if that works. (guessing here)

Hmm, I do work for a European company , but it's a U.S.-issued phone with "international" (quad-band) service.

The thing about the "^@" is that it coincides with the erroneous VM indicator, which signals a message even when all new messages have been deleted. Wacky. And it's been a problem since I got the unit. But now that's the least of my problems

Another odd thing: after reflashing the S/W, I no longer have the choice of manually setting the network band to 850/1900. I can only choose "Automatic." No other options are provided. Way bizarre.

Well, it's a company phone, which is why AT&T has been so reticent to help me (since I am not the "account holder"), so unless I figure something out by Monday, I am going to take it to the telecom department at work and ask for a replacement on the basis that the phone is defective.
