Razor V3a

I received a V3A for Christmas and am trying to decide whether to keep it or exchange for an LG8600. My previous phone was an LG and in 3 years, did not have a lick of trouble with it.

I have Alltel (CDMA) service. I've been reading through trying to learn about some of the customizations I can make to the Razor. I'm a complete noobie at this but am pretty tech saavy so don't think I'll have a problem. I have ordered - but not yet received - a data cable & MPT software.

I noticed a post that mentioned going to settings>connections to ensure the correct USB connection is selected. When I go to settings>connections I only get 2 options: 1-Incoming Calls, 2-Bluetooth Link. Is that something that will change when I install the software and connect to my computer? I need to find out prior to the deadline for returning my phone (Wednesday, 1/2/08).

Thanks for any help you can give me. I've enjoyed browsing the information provided on this site.

Your "connection" menu is how it should be - and will stay that way. Your phone is always going to be in modem/com mode. The usb drive option, which is the other option on phone's with a memory card slot/mp3 player, makes it easy to load songs, as it will sync with windows media player, and show up as a removable drive in my computer. You will still be able to load mp3's on the phone with MPT, once you get it. I did read that getting the V3a hooked up to MPT is somewhat of a challenge - look in the alltel section here on hofo, and about page 3 or 4, someone got it hooked up, but I don't believe there is even a setting for the V3a; they had to set it up as a V3c or something..anways head over to the Alltel section to check it out.

The V3a is a nice phone; most I know that don't like it is because it is a "stripped down" version of the V3m. The V3m had a memory card slot and was EVDO capable, whereas the V3a has neither. If you don't have a need for EVDO and don't need the extra storage on your phone, I'd say you should keep the V3a.
