Do you leave your wifi on all the time?

Simple poll... just wondering if there's many of you that take the time to always turn it off when you leave a connection. I don't, too lazy...

*edit* And I should specify that it more pertains to people that use it regularly at home/work/etc. I have wifi at home and I use it pretty regularly so I figure it can't be draining the battery *that* much while I'm out and about. I do have 'Ask to join Networks' turned off...

I never use it, and have it off all the time. I rarely (1-2 times a month) turn it on in a place I know has free wifi and I need to do important things (like online banking)

Sometimes & rarely would be a great addition to the poll

hehe, I edited the post because you brought up a good point. Some people don't use it at all so of course they would have it off... lol. Thanks!

on all the time. Pretty much everywhere has wifi nowadays

I have wifi at home and work, and leave it on all the time, and use it pretty frequently.

I leave it on unless I'll be somewhere a few days without wi-fi.

Yeah I leave it on all the time just because I use it with my home network and on my college campus with my school account. Gotta have SOMETHING to keep me entertained in those boring lectures that take attendance. haha

Its always on

I keep it on

I leave it on, its cool to see a connection connect when you don't know about it.

I have WIFI at home and i live in the country. and for some reason i turn it off when i am done with it or when i leave home i thought it would drain the battery...

Posted by: chak_dey

it does drain the battery if you keep it on.... for those who do keep it on all the time, you guys don't notice the battery going down?

Posted by: sk2sep2304

Not going to vote... but I only keep it on at home because my campus and my cousins neighbor is the only free wifi I've bumped into.

I turn mines off until I am on campus or at a free wifi spot. I can tell that it drains the battery.

I turn mine off. There aren't a lot of hot-spots around here.

turn it off

Tests have been done on the iPhone that have shown that -- when downloading data --WiFi actually uses roughly the same amount of battery power as EDGE. Also, the iPhone does not look for WiFi when its asleep. I've found that leaving WiFi on does not drain the battery much faster at all.

Also, when your iphone goes into sleep (i.e. screen shuts off), it disabled your wireless until you turn it back on. So there is no reason to keep shutting off the wireless when you're turning off the screen.

Actually no... iPhone has the best battery life I have EVER seen. I go to work at 6am, send about 10-15 text, 5 phone calls, 1 hour of iPod during lunch, and when I get off, the battery indicator still shows full bars. I leave WiFi on 24/7. I could never hope for all of that on my old CDMA Windows Mobile phones.

well do you have like a 2 hour shift? lol

I disabled it yesterday in hope for better battery life but it didn't seem to make much difference.

I've been keeping wifi on a lot lately. I usually turn it off when I go to work, but I've had it on for the past 5 days of this nice long weekend.

It seems to me that 10 minutes of edge data uses as much power as an hour of wifi. That's exaggerated of course, but I can literally watch my battery meter drain just refreshing installer sources.

Happy new year!

I leave it on and have it search. There is wifi more places then not around me. Besides it uses less battery life on wifi then edge I've found.

Posted by: Kadin

Yeah I've been toggling it off and on whenever I leave the house over the past few days and I honestly don't see any change in battery. All in all I'd say that I had the wifi actually turned off in the settings about 5-6hrs each day and it really didn't do much. And this was not in one shot, this was throughout the days as I've been back and forth quite a bit.

Easier to just keep it on as I have, I see no reason to do otherwise.

I keep mine on all the time. As others have said once it goes to sleep it turns off anyways so I don't bother. I have noticed that when trying to connect to weak signals I do see that it drains the battery faster. Downloading data, music/movies, ect from itunes or apps pretty much kills the battery.

I turn it off unless I am using it. I am very ocd about it though for some reason. I have to turn it off when I am not using it. I def use it whenever I am in the installer though, that **** is slow on edge.

My battery life is not that good so I have it on while at home and turn it off while I am gone. Is there any way to improve battery lifem other than turning off ssh and turning down brightness?
