I was browsing the web, and stumbled upon this website trying to find a way to add MP3 ringtones, and to no avail! This is my first time doing all this. Never heard of Bitpim until 30 mins ago. I actually just figured out a way to get mp3 ringtones to the VX8700 (i just bought one today from Bell Mobility) You need to download the Vcast drivers so the phone will be recognized in Bitpim.

1.Download Verizon VCAST, install drivers for 8700. (if using bell)
2.Put the SD card into you computer. Open card and create a new folder (where the other folders are, like my pics..etc...) called ringers. Remove SD card and insert back into phone. Connect phone using cable provided, turn phone on
3.Open Bitpim ( it might scan automatically)
4.Click on edit...settings.
5.Select VX8700, click OK
6.Left window double click on Phone, then click media
7.Look for directory called ringers. click on it
8.In right window, right click, and select Add.
9.Locate the MP3 clip (can only be 30 seconds)
10.Click OK
11.It will bring up a window, click convert at the top right, it will do its thing. When finished converting click OK at the bottom of window.
11.It will show up in the window, then click at the top of bitpim, send phone data, click on ring tones. Voila it is now on the phone.

I hope explained it well enough, if not you can just message me

This is great and all and should work since the same instructions worked for my 8600, but is there a way I can do this w/o the data cable? I have the USB adapter for the microSD card as well as the SD Card adapter you plug your microSD in... in which you then plug in the SD card.

I wish there was somehow a way to get bitpim to recognize the microSD card plugged into my laptop cuz I have an SD reader on it. Then I could just send the ringers directly into the folder in Bitpim via the adapter.

I'm pretty sure it can be done... I guess I'll just need to experiment.

Unless someone tells me how to do it...

I just want to say thanks to Macker for these instructions and to confirm that it worked. I am useless for anything even slightly technical, and found these instructions through a google search, so I'd like to add a clarification for anyone else out there like me.

You need to also download bitpim (or at least I did).

I had to open it. It did not scan automatically, but it was smooth sailing after that.

Bitpim is the greatest thing, you can choose any song in your library, and use any part of that song you choose as your ringtone....life is good!!!

i noticed that this process does not allow you to save the ringtones to your sd card it takes up memory on the internal phone memory. I dont know if i did something wrong or not?

you can send it as a sound(sd) through bitpim and afterwards go to sounds and send it to yourself. then you can save it as whatever you want

Trust me, you'll need a data cable for the phone. It doesn't work writing directly to the SD card from the computer.
