Treo 680 e-mail alert

Hi - long time Palm user (Palm Pilot>Tungston>600-700p>680). Just switched to AT&T so I changed hardware from the 700p to the 680. It's okay - I still prefer Verizon, but whatever! I'm a hard core Palm user - but I'm just steps away from changing to Blackberry! Anyway - I always keep my phone on "vibrate" (the top slider button). With my 700p, I was alerted when an e-mail came in, but with this device, there is no alert. Does anyone else have this problem?

are you using Versamail client?

Yes, I am using Versamail - I cannot use the other built in options because I work for a small social services organization that hardly has IT support. It's kind of a step backwards from Verizon's Wireless Sync - because Versamail doesn't use "push" technology (I can't use any of the Exchange programs because I am a Mac user). Off topic, I heard that I can subscribe to Chattermail, but that it is a huge battery drain.

BB Connect

or!

I am trying to see what I can do with Exchange Activesync. I am a Mac user also and don't wanna use Entourage, because I am just a OS X Mail, Address Book, and iCal fan. lol

http://www.kerio.com/kms_download.html looks to be interesting considering it syncs iSync which is iCal and Address Book to an exchange server. I installed the iSync plugin but now its telling me I need my own server running their software. it does indeed sync iCal and Address Book though! I am seeing how to set up a server for Exchange Activesync. I have a web server running Linux from Netfirms, so i wanna see if that would work, or what it means exactly. maybe there is a subscription fee to use their servers. i was hoping i would be able to use mail2web free account, or buy one there but i guess not.

Then on the Palm OS side, Roadsync by dataviz seems to do the job, or Chattermail. http://www.dataviz.com/products/roadsync/ It looks like Roadsync, chatter does not do this but correct me if im wrong... it notifies via txt or something in the background and connects to the network, pulls and syncs, and then logs off the net to save battery life.

Im in the same pickle. except I have T-MobileWeb also so I need to find something that works with proxy support. lol, but im testing everything though my bluetooth wireless network first.

Wow - thanks so much for this helpful info! I use OS X programs as well - but I have the old 12" Powerbook G4 - I have a feeling if I had the newer laptop with the Intel chip, I could solve a some of the problems... would I be correct in that assumption? I have Leopard but I haven't installed it yet.

I don't know how it is on a 680 with a smaller battery, but I can easily last 2 days with a constant Chattermail session on my 650. I think most of the complaints about battery drain come from CDMA users - from my understanding, the way CDMA data works is a lot more power hungry than the GSM data transmission methods.

There's something or other about SMS in the Chattermail account config screen, but I've never bothered with it as I have always user IMAP IDLE.
