Am I using GPRS or Wifi?

Hi Folks,

Couldn't find a post related to this so I thought I do another. So I just set everything up on my touch with a data plan and just want to make sure I know what I'm using when.

If there is an active WLAN in my area is there a way I can tell I'm using wifi for data instead of my GPRS? Is there also a way to set up the phone so that it always uses Wifi before trying GPRS?

THanks,

Brian.

When you are on Wifi, it switches over and you can see a little "wifi sign" on your phone.

the phone defaults to 3g, then edge and finally gprs.. if none r available or u feel that 3g isnt fast enough 4 u, then u open up the keyboard and hit function wifi and that will turn on wifi and the phone is supposed 2 pick up the 1st unsecured wifi signal and u have 2 conect 2 it or u find a secured one and enter the code if u have it... if there is no wifi, that tower looking icon will look like a tower with no top on it, if u r connected u will see the tower with the round circle on top with horizontal lines and arrows moving on the bottom side in and out.. At least this is the way i have experienced it so far cause ive onlly had the phone for 3 days an im loving every second of it.... what i also have found is that while im signed onto aol im thru 3g... it will sign me OFF when i turn on wifi... thats the way att designed the software on it, the aol im only wrks on 3g... not thru wifi..

When you're on GPRS there'll be a little G and back and forth arrows, when you're on EDGE there'll be a little G with back and forth arrows, and when you're on WiFi they're be an antenna symbol with back and forth arrows. That's how it is on my MDA/8125. I just recently hacked my registry to show the E when an Edge network is available, if you could even call it hacked...

The MDA doesn't support 3G... So when you're phone is transferring data on 3G, the 3G symbol will be small and have a signal symbol on the top right hand corner.

Pretty sure you can only connect to one thing at a time, so whatever is displayed on your title bar is what your phone is using.

there is a celll tower icon that shows up 2 the left side of ur 3g icon.. if that icon is there then that means that ur wifi is ON but not necessarily connected to a network. if it is conected then u will see a round circle above it and horizontal lines moving side 2 side at the bottom right side of that tower icon. if the tower icon is there but without the circle / horizontal lines... then ur not connected. i should have wrote this in my top reply but i forgot... my bad.
