i have a 4gb iphone and i hate it. Is there anyway i can buy a harddrive and upgrade it? thanks

Um yeah, not so much.

Unless you know how to solder and crack open the iPhone, but in all honesty, I'm assuming you would probably break it in the process.

There is no 16G iPhone, as of yet.

there was someone selling a "custom" 16gb iphone on ebay. i think the price was something in the $2000+ range. but id never trust that.

id say just keep your 4gb or try for a 1.1.1 8gb if you can.

does anybody know where to get a 16 gb harddrive for the iphone?

I agree. I definitely wouldn't pay for something like that given I wouldn't trust the fact that someone cracked open the phone and probably put something in there that shouldn't be. If something goes wrong you are out 2 grand.

Not worth it to me.

Just wait for Apple to release a larger capacity iPhone.

Or, take 4 4G iPhones and rubberband them together, there's your 16G...and it's still cheaper than 2 grand.

It uses flash memory and not a harddrive.

cant you take the 16gb drive out of the touch? Is that at all possible?

you don't seem to understand that you can't just buy 16G flash memory to uprade iPhone. You would have to crack open the phone, do some major soldering, etc...and odds are you are going to mess it up.

No you can not buy 16G of memory to replace a 4G.

If you need more space than 8G either wait for them to come out with something larger, or get a different phone that expands more.

So you HATE your iPhone just because it only has 4gb?

LOL!

also, the 16gb ipod touch uses two 8gb flash drives, making it 16gb and same goes for the 8gb, it uses two 4gb flash drives.

so its not just a simple task of getting a 16gb drive and putting it in there. it takes alot more.

People get your terminology straight. There is no "drive" flash or otherwise in the iPhone. What is in here are flash chips soldered to the main board. These are only replacable through some pretty tough de-soldering/soldering. And unless you are the EE of the year, chances are you lack the skill and dexterity to do this without the help of some type of robotic soldering device. Just wait for a new one to come out with more memory.

Didn't I say it was flash memory and that you'd have to solder?

I believe that's what I said in the first place...

I may have called it a drive, but I think you know what I meant.

And yeah, actually, my bachelor's is in ECE (electrical and computer engineering) from purdue university. i've heard professors say flash memory, flash drive, etc... I don't think it really matters what you call it as long as it amounts to you understanding what it is.

And in short, he is right, as I said previously, unless you are very very good at soldering, you are probably going to break your phone before you succeed in doing this.

Go Boilermakers! Great school. Know a few EE's to come out of there.

given your calling it a hard drive, when it uses flash memory, I doubt you'd be able to do such a hack..no offense...but a 4GB iPhone is better then a broken one

No need to buy a hard drive. Just jailbreak your phone and install Stacker3 on it. Then quadriple compress the hard drive, then lock it down. Be SURE and format the drive first!!!

...and oh yes, be sure and back up your data before you start. Let us know how it turns out!!!!

I was just asking. Dont have to act like an ***.

No one was being an a** but you asked about 3 times and every single time, a different person told you the same thing. Hard drive or not, you can NOT modify the memory unless you are very skilled with a soldering iron.

In all honesty, I have a bachelor's and worked with one for several EE classes I had to take in undergrad and I still wouldn't feel confident enough to try it.

And to the person that said you knew friends that go to Purdue, it's definitely a good school for either Engineering or Management (Krannert)...I'm working on my last year to have a double bachelor's (done with engineering, going for management/accounting also)...

So for now, I'm a professional student, haha
