hey i was thinking of going down to the states and grab an iphone
but i have a couple of questions

i researched and learned that dont take cash anymore, only credit card why is dat? also do i have to be an us resident to grab one..??? can i just walk in and say i want iphone?

yes just go to apple store buy one with your credit card they dont care who buys them you just have to use a credit card and roll out. They dont take cash because they want to try to keep people from buying them and selling them or whatever and with credit card purchase they can track how many are sold to each person if they use that same card.

What you can also do is speak to a manager and tell them that you don't want to make the entire purchase on a credit card but you will allow them to charge you $1 and then pay the rest in cash. That works 100%. If they tell you no, then chances are that you're not speaking to someone who's really in charge. Trust me, they can do it if you press enough. Like SChris01 mentioned above, the only reason they want your purchase on credit is because of the buying and reselling on ebay. At least they lifted the ban from 2 to 5 per customer.

Although I can't answer that question, I do know that att's probably follows the same restrictions that Apple sets forth. You could try but you're better off buying it at an Apple store.

I purchased my first iPhone at an at&t corporate store with cash on release day. They didnt ask for a credit card.

They dont care where your from, although they do not take cash as others have said. I paid for mine with my clearly canadian credit card and they asked for id...i showed them my canadian passport. Goto The Apple store as most AT&T stores near the boarder will not sell you the phone unless you are an existing customer.

I bought my 2 iPhones from an Apple store and AT&T store. Paid cash at both. Didn't have any problems.

My advice would be to buy it from an AT&T store.
They'll hassle you less, no questions asked, just swipe your card and go. If apple decides to ship 1.1.3 out of the blue, you'd quicker get one at apple than AT&T which makes you screwed. Also, there is still a slim chance that an AT&T store will have a 1.1.1 OTB laying around. Apple won't. It's all not a big deal but to be safe, AT&T if you can
