I am thirteen years old and I am going to be getting a new phone soon. I was wondering if the HTC touch dual (20 key version) would be a good choice for me. I will not be using the microsoft office programs but will most likely be using everything else. Any thoughts? If there is another phone you would suggest you could tell me but I cannot get any phone that is not available at http://www.telus.com/ and that is over 100 dollars on a three year contract

The Telus Touch is NOT the Touch Dual. It's the CDMA touch, which does not feature a slide out keyboard. If you are a heavy texter and prefer a physical keyboars the s720 may be a better choice.
Beware that the sub 100$ prices usually requrie a 3y contract and a data plan.

yes I know, I have to be a three year contract because my dad says we are going to stay with telus and 1 and 2 years are too expensive

well you can always go on different comparison sights and see which one best fits your need and also prices. but if you are thirteen i would watch out for my friends, they would probly try and steel your phone HEHEHE

Telus doesn't have the touch dual.... it's the Touch, that means no keyboard

but if there is no keyboard that version has wifi right? Oh, and I live in a really safe area, it will not be stolen, my friend brings his iPhone to school everyday no one has even tried to steal it

Telus only has the HTC Touch CDMA version, no wifi, no keyboard. 400mhz processor.
Rogers has the GSM Enhanced version of the Touch, with wifi, more ram and rom but still a 201mhz processor.
Im with rogers and love the wifi, i use it alot since its not hard to find unprotected wifi in my city.

oh, I would rather have the GSM than the CDMA because of the wifi

you can always get the s640.
It's slimmer than than the 720, came out at the same time as the touch + the bonus is that you'll have the same phone as me
hehe kidding aside, go to the telus store, tell them right off you are there to look and touch every phone before you buy and that you wont be buying on the spot, but will go home and think about it.
Doing this cuts out the fast store pushy sales stuff,. and lets them know you are all buisness.
My personal opinion here is to ask the guy which has wifi, and to show you working versions of those phones. If you want wifi (which is great) then this is your selling point. So run with that. after playing with all of them, get a data paper on the plans, and scram from the store. you can always post back her ein your thread updates of which you liked after and we can steer you in the right direction based on YOUR choices
Now, in my opinion the newest and IMO (again MY personal opinion) the htc s640 that did come out at exactly the same time as the touch, is your best bet. I hunted down a deal quite agressively to get this phone (i was stuck in the middle of my contract with no good renewal offers) and managed to get it at a fraction of the price brand new.
I have nothing but respect for this phone, it does everything I want. and yes it has wifi. best thing is that its a cdma only phone, very slim and sleek and when i show it people do ask hey is that the new blackberry? and when i say no its a HTC, they want one haha - so while there are hundreds that might have razors or iphones, it is a telus only so far, not many choose it (tho i dunno why) and you'll be unique.
I will admit that out of the box you WILL need to tweak it up (to all those reading yes yes I KNOW I still need to write up that hack faq.. im getting around to it so shush hehe) because the windows mobile is like any other version of winblows... a bit laggy and a memory hog.
I am running a modified registry (that i did myself) and the phone is ultra speedy. since its release and after my hacks, I have only had it crash once so far - due to my own mistake of editing something i shouldnt have. haha my bad there.
So like some suggested above my post. run in take a look at all the phones and see what your options are. You do have a very good leverage point if you are signing for 3 years. first for a vastly reduced price and you can bend some arms to get a lot of extra rate plan bonus's free. They want you locked into 3 years, and are willing to give you candy to get you to sign on the dotted line.
Keep that in mind, and keep us updated !

bell had a better data plan then all. I find messaging on the touch cdma not bad, its pure touch screen but I'm getting used to xt9 and its not all that hard.
I must admit thoe I prefer computer keyboard over the touch anytime!.
I'd go for bell with the 7 dollar unlimited data plan for the touch
