unlocked phone won't turn on, can i replace ATT sim and take to genius bar?

my iPhone was working perfectly, unlocked with the first firmware.

it was on very very low battery but I needed to make calls, etc so i went through to Apple Store on 5th to charge it in the stereos etc. it worked for a bit, and i would use it in between charges.

I then brought it home while it was out of battery, plugged it in and it didn't turn on. since then it hasn't responded to being plugged in to a) computer and walls, b) different plugs, etc.

I don't know what to do. I figured it is dead and gone but i was wondering:

If I put the original AT&T SIM card back into the phone and bring it to the store, would they know it was unlocked (i.e. voided warranty) without having to figure out how to turn it on?

In essence I need them to figure out how to turn it on, and if they do then they'll figure out it's unlocked, but by that point they've fixed it already.

also, if it is indeed fully dead, they wouldn't know it was unlocked and would i then be able to get it replaced under warranty?

Press and hold both HOME and SLEEP buttons on the phone for, say.....20 seconds...

Does that do anything?

If it does not charge, and does not reset, I would take it to the apple store. Like you said, if they turn it on, they fixed it. If it doesnt turn on, how can they know it isn't unlocked? The only problem you could have is when they put the AT&T sim in the new phone it is not active. What I would do is take it in with NO sim, and say you had to put it in your "backup phone" (which is conveniently in the car) because you could go without your phone. That is what I would do, should work great!

brilliant! this is what i was looking for and I knew i could get some good info on this forum..

thanks a BUNCH man..

i guess the next question would be, if i do bring it there, they take it and fix or replace it, would it still be unlockable with 1.1.2 or whatever they'd give it to me with?

If you go to the apple store they will not fix it, they will replace it (at least that has been my experience). The odds that they replace it with another unlockable phone are very slim. At worst, you buy a turbo sim. Thats $60 - $100 invested, and you still have an iPhone. Or, you really do use your backup phone, and wait until the software unlock comes.

mine does the same thing , do what he said hold the home and sleep button together until it turns on...sometimes mine takes over a minute to turn on. usually happens when the phone gets extremely dead... mine wouldnt work for a whole day 1 time from it.
