ATT Agent says I HAVE to have a new plan for the Duo

I went to an ATT store to buy the Duo and the rep there says that I have to have a new plan that will cost $40 more a month for unlimited txt/ internet. I fail to realize why I have to have unlimited internet on my phone. I currently have a BlackJack and have a plan for 1600 texts/month and a certain amount of MB for internet usage and I get by fine with it. He said the reason for having the plan for the Duo is because it is considered a "PDA" phone, but the Blackjack is more of a PDA than a Duo in my opinion. Can any other ATT Duo owners share with me their thoughts/current wireless plans? Thanks alot.

we did not have to do that. The Duo was eligible with regular voice/text plan.

qualification for the 100 dollar rebate on the Pantech Duo:

"Requires activation on a PDA Personal Plan or a 39.99 or higher unlimited data rate plan OR a 19.99 or higher messaging plan plus an AT&T Voice Plan of 39.99 or higher."

this is straight from the rebate form.

so you don't HAVE to have the forty dollar plan, but i believe yours is a 14.99 plan and that wont qualify you for the rebate.

hes not lying but hes not being completely truthful

if you go the 19.99 route, to qualify for the rebate it CANNOT be the MEdiaMax 200
19.99 must be Msg Unlimited, if you want data it must be at least 39.99

There is a "smartphone" feature listed on AT&T's website - I called 3 times to ATT and finally got a rep to explain to me that this feature will work for the DUO, it's $19.99 for unlimited internet - I then added the Text messaging package 200 for $4.99 a month since I don't text that much, except for unlimited texting to a fellow ATT subsriber with this text plan.

Both seem to be working fine now with my phone service.
