I have this Treo 650 that everytime i sync it, it loads a firmware update, then does the data restore....

whats the deal with that ? how do i stop it from trying to update the firmware?

Thanks.

Check the conduit for Backup or System in HotSync Manager, and make sure it's set to Handheld overwrites Desktop. Make sure Set as Default is checked. It's probably set the other way around right now.

Why would i want the handheld to overwite the desktop ?

So the question is how to i tell the sync program on the PC to freakin stop loading the phone with the firmware update.

That's exactly what I'm telling you. Right-click on your HotSync Manager icon in the taskbar tray, click on Custom, then scroll to the System or Backup (not sure which you'll have) conduit, click on it to select it, then make sure it's set to Handheld overwrites Desktop, make sure Set as Default is checked, then click OK and exit the manager.

If the conduit is set to Desktop overwrites Handheld, you'll keep getting stuff like that loaded every time you sync. Change it to Handheld overwrites Desktop, and you won't. The only reason you would need it set to Desktop overwrites Handheld anyway is if you need to do a restore HotSync or need to load a system update.

But shouldn't there be a way to remove that firmware update from the desktop portin ?

[14:01] lowspeed > now its doing the stupid firmware upgrade again
[14:01] lowspeed > ok ...
[14:02] lowspeed > what r my options ?

Ok this is how you resvole this problem. You gott do more than rename the backup folder.

1. Hard reset the phone.
2. Rename backup folder.
3. Delete the Install, Quick Install, and Card Install folders from the user folder.
4. Set the PIM conduits to desktop overwrites hanheld.
5. Resync the phone.

That should fix that.
