Hi all, I have a 8310 blackberry curve (unlocked originally att) on tmo US. The gps works great within the us but does not work at all abroad!!

I was in the philippines and am now in London and the gps does not pick up any satellites at all.

Any app I use does not pick up the sats either (google maps, nav4all, blackberry maps, etc) does not work

Is there a setting somewhere I need to set to enable int'l gps?

Fyi I also have unlimited int'l data and data works just fine on my bb abroad.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it is broken. GPS works anywhere it can pick up satellites with no settings to change.

I know from either my experience or the experience of family members that the 8310 GPS works in England, France, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, India, Mexico and Ireland with no problems. This is using both BBmaps and google maps.

Thanks for the reply....I find it odd the gps picks up sats in the us only and no where abroad. I'm not missing a setting on the device or with tmobile? Or even on desktop manager? I've searched everywhere...thanks

Also, interestingly enough, my friend's T-Mobile UK 8310 Curve w/ GPS does not pick up GPS signal either - we're in central London standing in the middle of the street (tom tom picks up the GPS signal just fine)

GPS is GPS no matter where you are. The US network covers the world. The Russians also have a partial constellation up, not sure how many sats or how good, but the US network covers the world and should be accessible by any GPS device, as long as you are outside with a clear view of the sky.

GPS covers the entire world.

GLOSSNASS (sp?) is the partially complete competing Russian system.

Galileo is the partially complete competing European system.

You will need a different reciever to use either of the other systems, they are seperate from GPS.
