920SH custom ringtones

Just got my new 920sh cell and everything looks and works great except im not able to play custom ringtones for some reason.
Toying around and doing some research, I'm still having some trouble...Since the phone accepts aac/wma encoded audio, using my mac, i exported the songs into .3gp extensions (aac-lc codec) via quicktime. After uploading the audio onto my phone, as an audio player, it plays just fine. But as soon as I try to make those songs into ringtones, it gives me this "Cannot assign. This data is not supported" error.
Just to see how a paid ringtone would look like, I went ahead a grabbed a sample off of the net...I guess what they use is a .dcf file that allows pictures to be embedded kind of like a mp3 in an itunes library. I also checked out the header information in the file and found "application/x-smccid" if that helps..
Anyone know how to get custom ringtones to work on a 920sh?
Any help would be appriciated
Thanks!

I don't know if you've read about how to turn sound files into ringtones for the more commonly found phones in this forum (such as the 903), but for Japanese market Softbank phones you need to turn them into Yamaha SMAF (.mmf) files. The instructions for the 920SH are generally the same as for all Softbank and ex-Vodafone JP phones, so you should find them by searching this forum. In a nutshell, sound files must be converted into WAV format first, then into SMAF format using Yamaha's Wave Sound Decorator (WSD) software. The conversion should be optimised for the MA-7 chip in the case of the 920SH, while you'll need to play with the rest of the settings (sample rate and length of the song/filesize) to find the right balance that works well on the 920SH. Very few, if not no people on this forum have access to a 920SH to be able to give you exactly what works, I'm afraid.
Oh and about Softbank's downloadable ringtones, DCF files also work as DRM encrypted sound files of several different codecs. In Softbank's case they use a combination of AAC and LE-AAC for their ringtones.

AL9999, Thank you so much for this information!! I just recently registered for HF so I’m still trying to get myself situated and all but I did spent some time looking around the forum and found a thread about what you were talking about.
(Incase if anyone else faces the same problem…)

I couldn’t exactly find any how-to’s on making DRM encrypted AAC/LE-AAC files but I guess that is going a bit overboard compared to the whole WAV to MMF conversation via WSD.
Martindesu, Working in Japan really makes it easy to get a hold of the 920SH…I just need to find a way to have it working once I return back to the states…><
Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, don't worry about the DCF files, even if you learnt how to make them they'd still need to be downloaded over the air to the phone for them to work. SMAFs are much easier to make.

I just now managed to get the ringtone working
...now correct me if im wrong by I'm seeing that the songs I'm using from my mac must be under 300kb but the 'full 2.8mb .dcf song' I downloaded onto my phone can be used as a ringtone no problem...I'm I doing something wrong or there is no way to get around this? lol

No the 300KB file size is a SMAF limitation, as compared to the DCF AAC files which aren't file size limited. I wasn't sure if they perhaps improved on the file size with the newer Sharp phones, but as you've shown me now, they obviously haven't.
The only workaround is to lower the sample rate of the song you're editing - this will allow you to fit more seconds into the 300KB file size.
