MicroTooth Bluetooth Headset Review

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jehlinger

I recently found this headset after looking at a picture of it here on howard's forum somewhere (can't remember where). Well, these guys have a factory in the Philipines and a warehouse here in the US. Their products can be found here:

www.handsfreedirect.com

I have no affiliation, yada, yada, yada. I ordered the Multi-Tooth unit which has the headset, and a plug-in handsfree unit that charges the headset as well. This comes with a wireless microphone that clips to your visor or any convenient place in your car.

The headset is similar in looks to the bluespoon, but is slightly larger maybe. It has an earloop so it but has no earpiece that sticks in your ear like bluespoon and jabra BT200.

Here's my attempt to compare it to the jabra BT200:
Overall, this is the best headset I've tried, between BT200, Plantronics M1000, and Belkin Bluetooth headset. At US$120 for the headset alone or US$180 for the multi-tooth, this is a reasonably priced unit competing well with the bluespoon (although I have not used that unit personally). Again, I have no affiliation with these guys, I'm just extremely impressed with this unit.

Sorry, forgot a link for the multi-tooth picture:

I have heard stories about the micro bt device but don't know anyone who has used one... thanks for posting that tho as it satisfied my curiousity about it.

The ear bail looks pretty painful with no padding.

hey good point Baker...

jehlinger how's the comfort level on it?

Posted by: jehlinger

Yes, I thought it might not be good either with no padding, but because it's so lightweight, I don't even really notice it on. It might bother some people though. If fact I forget I have it on until someone looks at me funny. I suggested to them that they needed some little foam sheath over that earpiece. I have some jabra eargels for an earbud that I have, I might try to fit one of those over the little speaker (it looks like the same size). I can't figure out how to take off the ear piece without breaking it.

When I go to work in the morning, it's usually still dark, and you should see people pull up next to me looking to see what that blinking blue light is on my head LOL.

Thanks for the feeback on the headset comfort

But you didn't say nothing about being compatible with the S55. How much it is ? Looks really interesting, it could be my HBH-30 killer.

Posted by: jehlinger

Sorry, works great with the S55. It takes two button pushes to initiate voice dialing or answer a call and one push to hang up (unlike Jabra which I could never get to hang up right). You receive a tone in the earpiece if you receive a call. It also makes a tone to initiate voice dialing, if it doesn't recognize the name you can push again to re-try. You can punch in a phone number and hit send then push the earpiece button twice to hear the call. It responds very quickly, usually less than a second to pick up a call.

If the S55 is out of range, it turns itself off after a few minutes to conserve battery. It seems the battery lasts over 3 days, with about 30-45 minutes of talk a day.

I've tried the HBH-30 and I like this better. It stays on my ear better, and responds faster. Also it's lighter than hbh-30.

This is onsale at a yahoo shop (shopping.yahoo.com) called green mountain traders for only $79 with cheap shipping.

It's the headset and belt case, but it's nice that you can get that for a cheap price and add the car kit later if you need it.

Posted by: jehlinger

green mountain is selling them on ebay as well.

Posted by: oneeyejack

hmmm...now we need someone who's used a bluespoon to test this unit against it.

Posted by: Synncere

I have a friend who is ordering one.... gonna check it out. If it performs well I might get one. Looks neat. I defiantely like the size

Posted by: dolo

let us know how it works.

thanks also jehlinger for that insight as well.

i have a fs bt200 now. but i was going to give it away to a friend whos less fortunate and cannot afford it right now.

so if this puppy is good, i would be very intrigued into picking it up.

synncere let me know how it works out!

Will do

I know it's gotta be tough waiting believe me! I know alot of people in the U.S. waiting for it and not a day goes by that I don't hear about it lol It's second week of May so hopefully very very soon AT&T will put it out. Keep the faith

Posted by: jmpage2

Actually they've made us wait so long, that I'm tempted to just go with a different phone anyway... I am really getting tired of the US market being the red-headed stepchild that has to wait a year for every new phone model that comes out.

AFA the Microtooth goes, my unit from Green Mountain Traders will be here on Friday and when I get back from my business trip I will evaluate it and compare it to my Jabra BT200. The main advantage for me of the microtech (as stupid as it sounds) is the carrying case. The belt case for the Jabra is a joke (the ear gel can fall off and you look like a dork with this big headset clipped to your belt) but I need a way of carrying a headset with me without having to stuff it into pockets where it has to fight with my keys, PDA, etc, for space.

OK, I got the headset today... and in a few words, what a piece of crap.

Sound quality is substandard, there is a background buzz/hum that can be heard at all times when on a call.

The fit of the earpiece is horrible, there is no way to adjust it in any fashion to fit your ear better... it kind of flops around since all that holds it to your ear is a solid piece of plastic... you can't even rotate it for crying out loud so that you can better position the microphone.

The earpiece gets very very hot when on a call for a while.

All in all I'm very disappointed in this product, my Jabra freespeak is about 10X better. Glad I only spent $85 on it with shipping.

If someone else wants to give it a whirl I will sell it to them (shipped) for $50.

Sorry to hear it was that bad My friend ordered one and I was gonna try his out... now I am having second thoughts about checkin' t out I might just for the hell of it tho. I'll give my mini review of it if I do. Thx for the post tho I'm glad both sides of the fence are shown in this thread

Posted by: jmpage2

Well if someone wants to buy mine the offer will be open till about wednesday of next week (got another biz trip to go on) after that it's Ebay time baybeeeee.

Posted by: fidodido

You see, it doesn't surprise me that the earpiece gets hot when on a call, after all.. my HBH-30 does it. But I dont think I will like the hum/buzz on the background when on a call, since I'm very picky when hearing sounds comes to. That, and how it will fit my ear is that im concerning about.

I was also very curious about how the litle microphone on the headset will catch up your voice from that far... -ear->mouth- without interfering with other sounds in the environment.

Really? My HBH 30 never gets hot I always found it to be super comfortable and was amazed that it never got hot Then again it could be me... I just might not feel the heat or pay attention to it
see now I am all curious so I will have to use the headset when I get back home and see lol

Posted by: jehlinger

jmpage2, I think you have a defective unit, mine does not buzz, has good sound quality and never gets hot.......

I always thought my jabra buzzed like crazy.

that said, the earpiece does suck in that there is no adjustment. It fits my ear ok and pretty tight, but I guess if your ears are smaller/bigger it could be a problem.

I'm beginning to regret recommending it.......

Posted by: jmpage2

I think a few more people will have to chime in on this. I don't think my unit is defective, it just appears sub-standard as far as sound and performance go.

My Jabra headset has a little static at times but for the most part works flawlessly.

Posted by: Synncere

Alot of people are satisfied with their Jabra's... if more people expirement with the microtooth's then there would be a good general idea of what is definately better. I get to try it out this Tuesday so I will let you all know how it goes. I have some pre concieved notions about it so I am very curious to see how things pans out

Posted by: jmpage2

So what did you find out, that was almost a month ago?

Posted by: Synncere

Damn I forgot about posting back to this thread.... my aplogies. Okay hmmmmmm how to be tactful about this one... actually on second thought I'll just be blunt. "It Sucks." At first appearance it looked poorly made like if I wanted to break it easily I could it didn't look too sturdy. Comfort wise after 5-7 min I had to take it off I didn't find it comfortable at all. I didn't find it to be any better than a Jabra or HBH 30 at all.. if anything I found it to be poor. I got static with it. At first I thought it could be distance of the device from the fone itself but even with the fone in my hand it didn't find it to be clear at all. All in all a piece of garbage. The only thing I liked about it was the size. IMO it's a waste of cash. My friend likes it but to each his own I am not even gonna go there as it's another story.

Posted by: jmpage2

Well I feel a little vindicated... especially as hostile as some of the responses were to my "it's a POS" post.

Posted by: Synncere

everyone entitled to their own opinion... and with this particular device some people like and some don't. I am one that doesn't yet I know a few that do... I am just glad that I'm not alone in my views of it. My 2 cents.

Posted by: jehlinger

No problem to each his own. I think headsets are very personal choice. I don't know why I don't have static on mine, I guess I should consider myself lucky.

I'm still very happy with mine, but I played some more with an HBH-60 over the weekend and I like that as well. I just don't like the Jabra because I don't like anything sticking in my ear. And I had problems with static on the jabra, more so with the T610.

And I don't think anything I said before was hostile.......if someone took it that way, I apologize
