Iphone Annoyance: How do you deal with txt status during calls

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Sometimes I'm on a phone call and I get a txt. I physically ignore it because the call is important... so i have no idea what it says till after i take the phone away from my ear to hang up the call, at which point - I can't hang up the call because the iphone forces me to ignore or view the txt first.

This gets annoying - How do you handle it, and how do you think apple can?

I think that while on a call if you pull the phone away from your ear and there is a txt status pop-up, you should be able to press end call without doing anything to the txt which is obviously less important than ending a call. (phone functions should have the utmost priority in every situation, as they do for example when connected to my computer, calls can still be answered)

Is it too hard to press the ignore button the you're still in call?
That way when you hang up, ending the call is quite easy.

Another thing is the fact that you don't have to hit end call to end it.
Once the connection is closed, it will hang up......so you can read your message without worry.

some people nit pick too much

I hit "ignore" and then read it when I am done with the call, or if I know it is important I ask the caller to hold while I view it.

Hey I know what you mean and dont let 5-10 messages come when your on a call It will take forever to hang up the phone. But now I just hit the sleep/wake button twice to end the call.

LOL, whats with this thread? just press ignore and when your done, a red dot will be nest to the text icon letting you know you have a text msg to read.

wow some people just need to design their own phones and make every single little detail customized to their liking. how hard is it to just press ignore, my god do you get 20-30 txt messages while on a call.

thats the thing I do get a lot of txt messages while on a call i wouldnt complain if it was a few messages.

my issue with text is the single notification, how many times have you missed a text due to the single notify. Nate has an app(SMSNotify) in installer that lets the phone vibrate every 15 seconds, drawback is, i'm in a meeting and i cannot get to the phone so it vibrates constantly. can't win.

You can edit the smsnotify.sh file using SSH and lengthen the "sleep" time from 15 to however many seconds you want. I put it as 300 seconds but I haven't had a chance to test it.

thanks, I'll try that.

When the other person hangs up, your phone hangs up on it own. Don't worry about it..

Yea, it is insanely hard to pull your phone out of your pocket and press a button to see if you have a text message.

hahahaha good point

having a hard button shortcut fixes this. Thankyou for telling me that double clicked lock will end call. That's great.

You have to admit that's nit picking.

Should you change your mind and decide to read said text message, does the iPhone allow you to press the home button and navigate to your texts to read the messages you previously ignored without ending the call?

Having the ability to end a call is important. The N95 specifically does NOT end a call when the slide is closed, which has caused a couple awkward situations for me and friends who have borrowed my phone for a quick call. Like when the DM says "Bye", I slide it shut, mutter "...douchebag", and hear him say "What?!" in the earpiece. These things do happen...
