Unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone: Horrible reception/lose of network

So I had a Tmobile Sidekick III and I loved that phone but I wanted an iPhone really bad so I went out to search for a 1.1.1 and found one. I unlocked and jailbroke the phone and absolutely love it for the 5 days I've had it but the reception on the phone is HORRIBLE! I mean, I am getting no bars and "Network was lost" message a lot when I am in a place that I've never had any problems.

Is there anyway to fix this or any 3rd party program that I can use to help cure this? I would love to keep the iPhone but I'll be talking on the phone for 10 minutes and then all of a sudden it'll just say it lost the network when I haven't moved and I lose my call.

The antenna is in the bottom of the phone, under the black plastic piece. Just make sure you hold the iPhone on a manner so that you are not covering that part of the phone.

That is the only advice I can give. FWIW I get WAY better reception with this than my wives razr did, and comporable to my Dash. I also use T-Mobile.
