My 904sh with PSS SIM

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SPwork

I bought PSS SIM from TAIWAN... It works with AT&T!!
But it is still way too expensive... I paid USD $120 for it....
Here are some pics....

Any question? It is not prefect, but works okay as a phone.

Posted by: martindesu

What functions do you have, what don't you have/do you want to sell your 904SH ?

*drool*
where do you get pss sim from?

Posted by: ubiquitous_tom

thank you for the post
but i'm using t-mobile here.. anyone with t-mobile sim and pss-sim to test it out before i actually get one of those pss-sim...

Posted by: SPwork

Every Function don't need Internet will work... Camera, phone, sms, music, video....
My pss sim is order from Taiwan....

I am very happy with my 904sh... don't want to sell it....

Posted by: takumi906

nice! i wouldnt mind spending 120. i would srsly like to know exactly where to order it.

Posted by: shungo

ya i would like this on a 705sh or 904sh
does it work with the new 920sh as well?

Posted by: raiden_t

Cool congrats SPWORK, can you tell me where you got the instructions for the PSS SIM from? can you show me a pic of your original sim i.e the gold part that you cut out.

Yes, but you'll only get calls and SMS. You don't really get to do anything that takes advantage of that great screen.

Posted by: aw614

it looks like I should be able to use my cingular sim card great...705p here i come!

Couldn't you put your own videos onto it?

Posted by: SPwork

The guy who sold me the pss sim, just made a english ver. website....
check it out.... I still think it is overpriced, but for 904sh.... whatever....

PSS-SIM

Yes, 640 x 480 3gp video looks amazing on this phone!!

Posted by: aw614

how fast does pss-sim site ship to usa?

I order two weeks ago... I think... maybe not...
but it ships last Wednesday.... I got it on Saturday.
EMS is really fast...

Posted by: johnmoon

So the phone works perfect with our resetting?
I know 920sh only can make calls / sms, cant access to main manu at all

I probably gotta get a few 904sh soon if theres any major flaw with this PSS SIM
Also people are getting Hyper SIM for this as well, not sure which one is better

Posted by: pocky

Beautiful!! Glad the owner made a English version of the site.

I was watching videos on my 904SH, I absolutely LOVE the screen. You can read subtitles very clearly!

Can't wait to order the PSS-SIM. Supposely I might need to do more trimming since my T-Mobile SIM card gold contacts isn't in the right spot.

Posted by: aw614

i just ordered it, hopefully i comes this week

Posted by: koh-kun

How come in your pic, you get a list of two operators when you have only one SIM in there?

Posted by: Ultraman666

I think I will wait till its a little less on the cost, heck I have waited this long what is a little more time!!!

Posted by: SPwork

that's manual select service....
It shows the signal we have in my area...
Every GSM phone should have it....
You can see it, but can't select it...

Posted by: koh-kun

oh i see. stupid of me.

Thank you for clearing that up SPwork!

Posted by: Kevbodian

Every day supply of pss sim, hypersim and turbosim are increasing. Soon the sim will be all over ebay. Many groups are claiming they were the first to do this and there are knockoffs of these sims all over! In my opinion, a knock-off will work just as good as the original because all it is is a sim card with some imsi and ki written on it. It's alot like a sandisk vs a dane-elec SD card in a 3mp camera. You could get the Sandisk ultra ii but do you really need that extra speed?

Already there are TONS of these sim cards on ebay for using iphones. Soon, a few dealers will release many of these for use in softbank or even docomo mobiles. Chances are, however, that the cell manufacturers may try to prevent this type of *unlocking*.

For now, or at least the near future, the unlocking by this method will get cheaper and easier to acquire. I am working on a few contacts at the moment on a bulk order of these things but at the going rate it isn't looking likely.

Posted by: aesculanus

DoCoMo. Now THAT would impress. Softbank's phones are the blacksheep of Japan's phone selection. Not much unlike say Verizon. The Docomo line up is the sleekest i've ever seen, by far.

well this pss sim is not an unlock so it would require only someone to read the information off a docomo sim and put it on one of these pss, hyper or turbo products. then docomo would work too.

at present, it seems that features that require a data connection still won't work but at least for a 904 you can take it out from under your bed.

would stuff like MMS and SMS and GPRS work when u use the PSS SIM?

Posted by: shungo

$120 is too expensive...

Only SMS will work....
SMS and GPRS need internet... need to change the setting of internet....
and it's locked, no place to config.... no way to use......

then it will be a while until i get a Japanese sharp, although man SHARPS are SEXY! but without GPRS, this is going to hold me back

Posted by: SPwork

I wrote it wrong.... Only SMS will work....
MMS.. GPRS... MAP.... will not work.....
But GPS location works..... Camera works.... music works.... video works.....
Phone.... works...... that's enough for me.... I don't want to pay for GPRS...
So... I am happy with my 904sh....

That sounds really good. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just bought a couple PSS from the link you provided and I already got my tracking number.

I have a k810 (that I am selling now in favour of a 904) and I never used anything other than phone/sms. I always leave MMS and internet disabled because I don't want to pay for it.

When I move to Japan later this year, I will take my 904 with me and make beautiful love to it.

Posted by: el3ctone

i wanna study abroad, so i can get my hands on the sexiest Sharps available on planet earth

I'll be a: 日本留学生 (nihon ryugakusei)
I hope my japanese is correct.
Can't wait till Spring semester starts

904sh has GPS chip built in.... but the map is on the internet....
So, u can only use it to get GPS Coordinates.

BTW, I don't have any 3g signal here.... can't test for u...

Posted by: aw614

btw did you get a tracking number right after you purchased? I havent got a response, just a paypal recipt

Posted by: shaolinmonk

so do all those other sim cards work too... like hyper or whatever..

No, not possible.

It has GPS, but outside Japan you should only get coordinates; no maps.

I got a tracking number right after purchase but perhaps he was still in his 'office' when I ordered.

all the other supposed knockoffs should work, although the seller of the PSS sim says that they either have limitations or are of poor quality. imho, they all should work as they are just a sim card with a few codes written on them.

Posted by: shungo

$125 is pretty expensive
anyways do you need a softbank sim card to do this?
u dont need it right?

you do not need it. softbank information is already programmed into the pss sim/hyper etc. you just attach it to your sim and put it in the phone. the phone will think it has a softbank sim.

Posted by: Pepsi Blue

ARGH why did I sell my 904sh T.T. Damn I have to get my k800i and U600 fixed and sell it ASAP! Thanks for the picture and links

Posted by: rsx333

does it work with rogers?

Posted by: el3ctone

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonK850i/R1CA Browser/NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

It should work with any sim as it will make the phone think you have a softbank sim

Posted by: orphanboy

does it matter if my phone was under vodafone and not softbank when i bought it?

also, i still have my vodafone sim card. would it be possible to hack it without the pss sim?

Posted by: el3ctone

softbank or vodafone, i dont think it would matter, as it was only a name change.

Its like Cingular -> AT&T

Posted by: koh-kun

Since the topic of 904SH is out here can I ask a few questions?

What resolution, bitrate, audio type, etc. should I use for the 904SH for viewing. Also, how does getting GPS coordinates work? Does it cost money?

I'm broke because of the holiday season, but once I can afford to buy a PSS SIM I wanna start using my 904SH.

the reason why i'm asking is because i've read on other post that the pss sim doesn't not work with rogers. i just want to make sure. anyone tried it with a rogers sim?

The brand may have changed with ownership but the network codes (MNC or whatever) didn't.

A question for SPwork (and effectively anyone who's already got their 904sh running with a pss-sim or variant): can you confirm that there is or isn't a reprovisioning message everytime the menu is accessed? Thanks.

Are you talking about using 'just' cancelled USIM without any PSS or turbosim adapter?

Posted by: aw614

I cant use my 903sh, or my other phones when i take pss sim off the 705p, only seems to work on 705p and 904t of mine.

And I have to take the back cover off my 705p to get the sim out

I am using china3gp sim which is similar to turbo sim/PSS sim

No SIM hacks, and it's naked, no TurboSIM, no nothing. Of course it doesn't work as a phone, but it starts up OK. No idea how long it's been cancelled, but likely a while since it's a Vodafone USIM.

EDIT: Ah never mind, I thought you meant "just" as in "recently" cancelled...ahahaha, as opposed to "only".

What is china3gp sim? Is it same as turbo/pss or is it just a dual sim holder. If its dual sim... that's your problem

do all the cards have the same price?
which one is cheaper and works?

i was cleaning out my closet and comtemplated on selling my white 904SH. it's sucha beautiful phone that i just can't seem to bring myself to sell. but having it in the box all this time was making me crazy!

thank god i started reading hofo again or else i would have sold the phone! my upcoming birthday wish is for the unlock to work! (i think that's what i wished for last year.)

lol my birthday is coming up in a bit too...hahah I wish for both my 904 and 920 to work on Rogers!

Posted by: Kevbodian

So the PSS sim is here but the 904 is at a friend's house. You will all have to wait a bit longer (about 10 hrs).

I will post regarding Fido tonight, but I will only be able to test the rogers with an inactive sim.

Posted by: KBoardBox

AHHH too long a wait!

Mind testing on an active Rogers SIM too? If not that's still cool.

Posted by: MyLoveForTofu

EHHHH?!!!!!
I'm totally looking forward to your results for the fido sim XD I'll be able to decide whether or not to get a 904sh XD *crosses fingers*

Just got my 904sh... will order hypersim instead of PSS
which will cost me about 120CAD (its expensive but as long as I can use it)

If this works ill be picking one as well

Is it possible to re-program a pss sim, i.e. if you buy a pss sim with iphone software on it will it be possible to put 904 software on it?

that doesn't answer my question dude, what do you mean by that please elaborate.

Sounds like it's hardwired for a single purpose, so you can't change the programming on it once it's on there. Am I correct?

i just got my pss-sim today and plug into my 904sh and IT DOESNT WORK!

very angry

i tape it on the back of the sim just like it said and when the phone's on it says

Try a Master Reset.. Mine didn't work initially (screen displayed USIM-MEP) and only worked after a Master Reset.

Tell us what provider you are on? Show us a picture of your sim card as well. As discussed on hardwarezone there are some sims that dont work.

It should work as if it says "Insert USIM card" then it means that your sim is not registering in the phone; ie- its not sitting correctly. If it says "USIM MEP" then it sees your sim is not a softbank sim.

Hey ALL!!!!

Confirmed working on Fido in Victoria with 904sh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just lent my camera to my friend so I couldn't get physical proof but just believe! It works and I even made calls to other phones with it. It's really nice. GPRS doesn't work because you can't change the GPRS settings manually; it will only let you change the settings by doing the reprovisioning.

Everyone on Fido, don't worry about PSS sim and your 904. It works perfectly. Just be very careful when you attach the PSS sim to make sure that the contacts lined up correctly.

Posted by: ubiquitous_tom

well i asked someone this question before if t-mobile would work with this pss-sim when SPwork was posting his result with at&t and now it's confirmed by me that it works~!

the pss-sim that i got is from the original dealer from taiwan (thanks sunny)

now move on to what works and not:
call and sms works fine and since it's t-mobile usa then only gsm works.. (no fun...)
other stuff like mms, gprs, gps and other stuff that require you to connect to network don't work...

and you can see my sim card there i have the one where the gold contact is near the edge. i used to have the old t-mobile sim where the gold contact is in the middle but just to make sure it works i went to t-mobile and ask this t-mobile assistant to hook me up and he was nice and very cool about it so 20 bucks later i've got new sim for it.. so just so you all know that you can get a new sim and choose it too because they have 2 kinds now at the store that i went, the first kind has the gold contact in the middle and and the other one is the one that i have now, the gold contact is near the edge

well that's all i can think of.. if anyone has any question then let me know i'll try to answer as best as i can...

here's some pictures of it..

oh and don't master reset the phone when you have pss-sim in there it will put briefcase next to the signal bar thingy..(roaming?) it was a pain to get rid of it.. i have to master reset it with vodafone sim in the phone then take it out and then put the pss-sim in again to get only the signal bar like the picture there with not briefcase...

Posted by: ubiquitous_tom

oh ya.. i forgot to mention that the re-provisioning thing is not even there with this pss-sim so.. no annoy pop-up anymore yeah~!

by the way.. does anyone know if it's possible to code v-appli or ic-appli or something.. and then put in the phone so we can run the program in order to change network setting manually since we can't get re-provisioning from softbank so no setting or anything inside the phone can be detected or erased by softbank...
i know it sounds farfetched but can anyone shine some lights on this issue? since i know how to code and stuff it might help guide me a bit here.

Posted by: martindesu

Does anyone else think that the unlocks will improve - or is this it?

First off- V-appli is just another name for Java apps. IC-appli are just Java apps that take advantage of the phone's built-in FeliCa chip. They have no way of affecting the reprovisioning process. Otherwise, interesting idea, but without knowing how repro works a workaround can't be made.

And I do hope people keep working on hardware unlocks (and seeing if there's a GPRS settings menu buried in the firmware somewhere). This is hardly an ideal solution.

Posted by: foo_mark

Like yangj08 says, you can't really affect the reprovisioning system at all through V-Appli, since its Java therefore its all sandboxed, meaning the program doesn't touch anything about the operating system.

I don't assume there is a way of faking those repro messages? I heard someone (probably on this forum) has managed to send repro messages to the phone, just that they don't know what message to send to the phone.

I got the briefcase icon after I played around with the network modes (AUTO, 3G or GSM). I just had to reboot the phone and it was gone

Btw, here's my 904SH running on HyperSIM

K_Gokiburi is hyper sim more compatible with more sim types?

Great News Kev. I just pull the trigger on the pss sim after reading the good news. Can't wait to finally use my 904sh which has been hidden way from the sunlight for way too long.

You can order a reprovisioning to your phone via the SEMC site here.

Also made a video of how the reprovisioning works on the 903SH ( linky ). The empty settings place and all stuff like that is what I really don't remember... Also as I always had had the Elisa settings on my phone I couldn't really feel if something had changed. E-mail works as it did earlier.

Maybe I should do a major reset and try after that if it really saves 'em. The model number I used was the K810i. Will try later on with a 904SH when the PSS-SIMs I have ordered will come.

i-applis won't work with the repro or help get it out... Simply because you can't install any from any "unregistered" server. That is the security policy for SoftBank. Developers can have access to certain servers to where they may upload their apps. But once again, repro is not done via the i-applis, which are just java - as yangj08 said 8).

Posted by: angel_wing0

one more q, it doesnt matter if the phone is vado or softbank right?

it shouldnt

then i took it out and put in my sim + pss-sim

didnt work still

how long was the boot up w/ the phone

i noticed that on the video the boot up took a good while but mine is only a couple of seconds

Posted by: ubiquitous_tom

ah i see... thank you everyone for reply....
that's too bad.. i guess no gprs for 904sh then...

Posted by: johnmoon

I will be ordering two PSS Sim later today
lets hope this works with Rogers...

Posted by: cctw

so the pss sim / hypersim for 904sh should work on 920sh too right?

Posted by: Ultraman666

Well I purchased mine today will update everyone when I get it to see if it works and my 904sh is vodafone version 3-2006

Posted by: takumi906

okay so it doesnt matter what type of sim card layout there is for pss sim? im going to switch to t-mobile because at&t's prices for prepaid are a bit too much. i really wanna use my 904sh and my new acquisition coming soon

What's the website for the PSS SIM?

I am concerned that your pss is not lined up right or it has been damaged. When it goes into the phone, its rather tight and I noticed the part of the sim that inserts first, sometimes it catches on the inside and wants to push out: so the fido sim is in no problem but the pss sim is getting squished and may have moved a little.

Jeeb,

What happens when you press the Live! button on the phone now? Does it connect to internet?

Bought one earlier today!

Posted by: martindesu

As much as the 904SH used to be ><

Posted by: KBoardBox

Very, very true. I wonder if I'll sell mine...hahah

Posted by: jeebjp

Kevbodian,

actually many things might be breaking it atm, but I get globe->globe+arrow (meaning it's connected) and end up with "Host name couldn't be resolved". E-mail works perfectly (through the same Access Point), so there is enough access to the internet at least.

I think I'll either reset this phone and try again - or just clear all the settings and try once again.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

i actually tried it,

i put a little tape on the front and back so it wont move and still didnt work

Posted by: foo_mark

Hey jeebjp, so you technically can surf wap sites after receiving those repo settings SEMC sent through their server?

Its interesting to know that the repo system operates based on SMS. I wonder if there is an actual way of reproducing those SMS message structures to create our very own WAP configurations.

Posted by: Efishie

so has anyone confirmed if 904 works with Rogers using Hypersim??? I want to know so I can buy the phone!!!

Posted by: aw614

i tried what jeebjp did on both of my 903sh, my euro firmware recieves the ota, but the japanese firmware does not

Posted by: Maikurukun

*HINT* Rogers and FIDO uses the same simcard type...
=p... and they are the same company....

Posted by: Efishie

excellent, that means i can buy a 904SH

Posted by: MyLoveForTofu

>_> Even though it's been proven that a Pss works with a fido sim card I think I'll wait and see. I already have two 903sh >_> and I don't see that big of a improvement in the 904sh I might as well save up a bit and see how the Pss's develope later on.

Actually its funny. As my 904sh hasn't arrived yet and after I watched Jeeb's video, I went to SE and got the setting for K810i sent to my Nokia 6061. The settings actually installed there too. Must be a universal standard for settings through SMS.

As far as I can tell, I can see no reason why it wouldn't. The sim cards are physically the same and the network is the same. When you put the PSS sim with Fido sim in the 904sh and do a network search, it gives you "2G Rogers Wireless". The only difference between the Fido and Rogers sim cards is the mnc codes, IMSI and ki; none of which are transferred to the phone via the PSS sim.

.

I think the system nokia and se uses are the same along with a few other companies, i remember reading my pantech manual and it even said you can use the sony ericsson or nokia settings to send to the phone, and it worked too

Oh that's lovely. When I get my 904, I am going to try every phone type on the SE page until I find one that works (even though i NEVER use GPRS... freaking costs too much).

Well, Sharps are basically SE with a few differences as Sharp designers get to make a few changes in development.

I think I ordered on Jan 8 and I got them yesterday morning so... about a week. However, mine were shipped on like Tuesday so by the time they got into Canada it was Friday. So had to wait the weekend. I'm gonna say 5-7 days.

okay so i went to my local t-mobile and all they had was this kind:

does anyone know if it will work?

I would just try it out and see what happens
here are the diffetent sim cards jung posted a pic of

see which one is similar

i'd say it resembles a type 8 more. i've never seen that type ever..

Fido and Rogers users should have a Type 7 card. The type 9 is the same as type 7 in case you are wondering. The original poster of this pic on hardwarezone clarified this shortly after posting.

Do all these cards work?

Before I used the 3M tape that comes with the PSS sim, I just tried taping the pSS to the sim on 4 sides with small small pieces of tape. Once I knew it worked, I took off the 3M tape and stuck it to my sim. Then I put 1 small piece of tape over the part of the sim that slides into the sim holder to prevent the PSS sim from catching anything and getting ruined.

They reported on hardwarezone that a couple of them don't work (I can't remember/too lazy right now to check, but I think it was 2+3 or just 4+8); however, I think there was 1 poster later who said his type 3 was working. I would try no matter what sim I am using, though, as to make sure that all the contacts are lined up properly before ruling any of them out.

I guess so. All my Vodafone ones are a type 4 I think. I wonder if I order a replacement SIM what type it would be.

I hope this isn't a huge limitation.

When my 904SH arrives, I will invest in a PSS SIM.

Posted by: foo_mark

I am just curious if anybody of you guys tried the WAP Browser after the reprovisioning using SEMC site. I already have a 904 sitting here, I am just curious if I should just wait until there is a better solution to be able to use GPRS over the air.

Posted by: martindesu

This is probably the best solution I can see for a long time... any other solution requires hacking the software... (as far as I know).

Posted by: foo_mark

Alright, cool, also, did you manage to get access to the games and applications folder? (since I heard that you need to have access to an internet connection)

Posted by: raiden_t

This must be another clone of the hack sims:

I asked for video evidence and the guy said soon come.

gahhhhh... i'm still waiting for my pss-sim from.. the taiwan site!!! I really hope mine isn't lost in the mail.. traveling back from Canada to Taiwan.

Hopefully everything get cleared up soon... and i can have my 705SH working already. I was suppose to get it before kev!
