Coolio I'm from london, what network are you planning to use the 904 with? vodafone? cause most UK sims are type 8 on junglitz list and I don't think that is working at the moment.

type 4 works for sure, that is what my cingular sim card is

strangely enough I found my old cingular sim card that I had to deactivate when I lost the phone it was type 2 like the voda jp sim

Type-4 looks simialr to type-8 although there is no gurantee 60 odd quid is alot for a tester. I have been told by the a seller of the hyper-sim that all sim works with it, not sure if this is true though.

It's a paino black in 9.5 out of 10 with original box. The guy who sold it to me couldn't wait for unlock solution anymore and decided to get the iphone instead.

For those of you that already using it with PSS, how's face recognition working for you when using outdoor?

I'm using Hyper Sim that is now said to be 256m, where the PSS-SIM with INEX chip is 128m.

I heard that the first gen of the pss-sim sometimes have issues or disconnects from calls when used. I'm not sure myself, but its rumored around.

The Hyper Sim, said to be the 2nd version or the better varient to the pss-sim. More stable, and well cover for most sim. I have no problem roaming Cingular Sim's in Hong Kong.

Im going to try 920sh, since its that my seller in Hong kong let me play with his 920sh and have no problem getting in and out of menu. However, as ususal, the Camera, MMS, Games and so on doesnt work. Only calls, sms, and like browsing through menus are fine.

BTW: No Re-pro for 904sh, Re-pro for 920sh for Camera and some other functions only

You can do it either way.
Taiwan Post will have a better tracking when its in Taiwan..
but once it hits canadian soil, Canada Post will have better tracking because Taiwan tracking is like a day late.

Hi, I just got my PSS SIM for my 904sh today but im having some problems. it goes to the home screen and i can sometimes make calls but then a few seconds later it gives me the insert usim error. I have the type 2 sim card, could that be the problem?

use track-trace.com and go down to EMS (with USPS). it will get results from where it was shipped (TW, JP etc).

I paid $250 for my 904 a few days ago. Price is on its way up.

you gotta make sure contacts are lined up on the 2 sims and that it didnt move when you put it in. most likely a contact is slightly connecting the side of the sim card.

Again none of this is proven. The makers of each sim says the same things so all we can do is see what people say after a period of time. What happens when PowPing makes the 512 sim? Is that better because the number is higher? the Hyper 256m is actually 256kbit (not mbyte or kbyte, but kbit). So having a little extra memory shouldnt make a big gain in performance. I think the average sim from your provider is 32-128k.

This is true... Vodafone in Aus are still selling 32kbit regular SIM (not USIM) cards, while most of them are 64kbit now. Memory size in SIMs haven't really developed...

Congrats to whoever can use this finally

The entire Hyper/PSS SIM thing is very confusing, but one question about this 904 scenario:
Has this been unlocked only via the SIM method or is there also a software unlock (ala 911T) and you guys in N.A. are just doing it the SIM card way because of the lack of the proper 3G frequency ??
I am just waiting a week or so (a/k/a my next pay date !!) to purchase a 911T but this 904 situation is very interesting to me but am a bit hesitant to fool around with spliced SIM cards, etc..
I would ultimately prefer a clamshell to a slider and the 904 seems to be a no nonsense beauty.

the japanese wont ship anywhere except japan due to language difficulties, yeah its a pain. Even if u know japanese (like i do) they still wont ship

damn....the prices are inflating already >_< I guess I'll probably give up by the end of the month if I can't find a 904sh for a reasonable price because I can't imagine how much the thing will inflate to (well actually I can...it'll probably be as much as a brand new 903...600+ O_O!!!!! *shock*) >_<

Its hard to buy 904sh brand new, i mean if you're looking for new softbank white/blue those are hard to get.

Prices for hyper card its like 3k ish HKD, but it doesnt seem to drop...that almost price charged for every softbank phone >@<

Plus, Now most of them has renew exterior, which is hard to tell if it's used or not. People will say its new, but its just got its exterior replace >@<

To be honest I don't mind if the thing is refurbished, as long as its working and the frame is nice I'd probably still go for it, as long as the price is reasonable. (and yes I'd go for a white lol)

So I guess I'll wait till this summer. Hopefully by then there will be more improvements on the PSS (and price drop lol) and hopefully the cost of buying one there will be lower then importing it to Canada. >_<

EDIT: theres a guy on ebay japanfone who's selling 904sh's (black) for like 390 and you might be able to get away with a lower price since theres a make offer option, if anyones still interested in it. Personally I'm not interested because I only want a purple or white >_>

aka. If i have a Rogers Sim - and a Rogers Phone.. ... the sim card tricks the phone to belive its a Softbank Sim.

IN addition. don't put it in Sony Ericsson phones. (The type where the sim card goes down a chute of some sort.. or a hole...) Theres cases where the simcard got stuck.

If it helps you right now (you mentioned going to HK/mainland China), the 904SH is going for ~2500RMB new with SIM in Shanghai (if you're going elsewhere in China, then sorry, dunno about that) and about ~$3700 in HK (Mong Kok- I only managed to find one shop that stocked it in the area and that's what they're charging).

All I can say is keep trying. If you have a camera, take a pic of your sim with contacts up using macro zoom and post it so we can see it.

Also make sure none of the solders on the IC are broken.

Possible errors:

1. INSERT USIM - your pss/hypersim is not contacting the sim and/or the phone's contacts correctly.

2. USIM MEP - this is the message you get when you put a fido or any other non-softbank/vodafone sim into the 904. Nobody should be getting this message unless they dont actually have a pss or hyper sim.

I don't know about corrupt, umobileco is still around. If I were you, I would get someone to unlock it for you. Unlock for 703 is 1/3rd the price of the pss sim at least.

don't know if anyone mentioning this before but according to the hardwarezone forum, the sim card that don't really work with the pss-sim is the one that has gold contact in the middle due to voltage difference on them compare to the one that has the gold contact on the edge.. so that's why pss-sim can't really work with it..

just a thought... i remembered it vaugely so.. don't quote me for it..

From what I can remember, it's because it doesn't line up with the gold contact lines on the PSS-SIM/HyperSIM. Which will require more trimming to get it to sit to the corner. I don't think there is a voltage difference.

I have the SIM card that sits in the middle. I might see if there is a new SIM Card from T-Mobile I can get. I had this SIM Card for maybe 5 years.

Edit: I'm soooo soooo glad I picked up my White 904SH during it's darkest hours.

I wouldn't settle for any other color.

Simplay answered, no. The pss sim sticks to the sim using 3m tape provided. You can try and unstick it but you risk damaging it.

First time I used the PSS i tried without taking off the 3M tape and just putting a small piece of scotch tape on all four sides. It works.... but I didn't trust the scotch tape. If you use this method, then you can still remove your sim and use it on other phones.

I guess you can use it on other unlocked phones, maybe. And you should be able to use on most other Softbank phones.

Yeah I trimmed mine because it overlapped the edge of the sim a little when i made the contacts line up.

Yea Ebay only has black and blue (which I think is ending soon). The locked purple/white 904sh I saw for 550 was from a site not from ebay lol (don't have the address of it on me right now)

Thanks for the heads up on the prices lol but unfortunately I don't think I'll be headed towards Shang hai because I don't know anyone there lol.

But yea I'll definitely check mong kok since I'll be going to HK for half the summer vacation, I'll also being going to Guang Zhou to visit my grand mother so I'll check there too XD and if I have time I'll also go to japan with a few friends for the hell of it lol. (I can imagine the language barrier already >_<!)

3700hk $ so thats about nearly 500 Canadian....well I guess its reasonable since it includes the sim? But I think by the time I go (during summer lol) either the prices have already sky rocketed from the popularity of the unlock solution or........they'll be out of stock. >_<

I've been waiting for my tracking number since last week. I've contacted the owner twice now and no reply. Kind of shady.

I have dealth with the ebay seller Promiauto before. He is good. The Japanfone's auction has an offer system. He offered me $340, I said $330 inc shipping. He then proceeded to ignore me hahaahah.

About PSS sim... I got my tracking number the same day (maybe an hour) after I bought them.

Just checked my trace, mine has finally left Taiwan today. So, I guess next week at best.

I'm not to keen on using the 3M adhesive, as I would like to switch my phones every so often, as I like using my iphone as well. Any tips on how to attach the pss sim for easy switching use.

after reading the whole thread carefully, I have ordered the card and I got it today. but it turns out it only works fine for 2 minutes. now it is giving me "insert usim card"

I have already email the seller, don't know if he can fix it.

I suggest u put a piece of paper between the SIM tray & your USIM. This might improved on the contacts...

hey shungo, there was a guy in the toshiba 911t thread who said his pss sim didnt work with rogers.

there was also a guy who said pss sim didnt work with his phone on fido... however, it seems that fido does work. either there are dud pss sims being sold or they are not being inserted correctly. all i can see is give it a try.

i see there are ebay copies already for 2/3s the price.

Don't forget it may be the actual SIM card ... i.e. the shape on the metal contacts... rather than the carrier. Isn't awong614 using some kind of SIM-hack (e.g. PSS-Sim or something) with his 705P anyway? AND he uses Rogers I believe.

Exactly my point. So to everyone who's asking does it work with.... just try it.

There should be 2 separate messages: INSERT USIM and USIM MEP. The first being an issue with the pss sim and insertion while the USIM MEP is caused by a broken pss sim or pss not inserted (wrong sim only).

I dont think you can because you need to actually complete a reprovisioning.

Try getting repro from Sonyericsson.com and see if that works (pick k810i).

Gaaaah this is unbelievable!!! Was supposed to arrive today according to my calculations BUT there was a BIG robbery at the post office main terminal this night with bomb threats, burning cars etc all around the city to distract the police so they could do what they did. Just where my package was, lets hope it didn't get stolen, only letters from out of town were affected also, 600k of em lol. This has like never happened before either... BEH skipped morning classes also just cause I was so hoping for it to come!

So the moral of this story.... There are ALWAYS delays with getting the 904sh unlocked!

Nono it's just the PSS Sim card, the phone I've had since the day it was released in Japan and have used it quite alot over there, so no great loss but still unlock is taking it's time to come here :P

Yeah have had two of em(contracts) hehe, one with my 903sh and then 6 months later I upgraded it to a 904sh was over there studying Japanese. So got to use it for 4 months... then I was there again this summer and got a friend to get me a contract so that I could use it again and it really is the greatest phone ever(except 910sh and 920sh ofc), beats 903sh by miles

Never even touched it, have had 903sh before?... are you getting one? =)

Only bad thing is the whole metal thing around the camera has like been scraped away hope it's just me.

I notice the metal scratches very easily. The edges of mine near the battery door is already scuffed up. I'm trying to be as careful as I can be. =\

martindesu, Your right. I just checked with the EMS China tracking and it shows no information. Do you know how many days it has been? That's not a good sign.

EMS is usually very fast and traceable.

Same though went through my head. So what I did was, I peeled the corners of the 3M tape on the PSS SIM and I cut off the backing a bit. I did that all around. So the majority of the backing is still on the tape, with only the sticky part exposed around the corners.

Hm.. I see. I think I'll attempt some cheap scotch tape thing first. Although that is a very good idea pocky.. but lets say you switch to another phone ,and want to switch back that would troublesome again.

Don't see why it wouldn't work as long as you ensure proper contact and get it in without too much movement/sliding.

If I do a delete from SIM contacts or Delete All, it does it and then it says REFRESH. And then i get USIM MEP and I have to restart.

When it starts up again it works fine.

SO FOR EVERYONE:

Store ALL contacts on the phone and use the miniSD to back up contacts. This can be done through the connectivity menu in settings. If your sim is full of contacts, you will have no problems copying them to the phone, just don't try editing or deleting contacts on your sim. It will force you to reboot and only actually finish the deletion sometimes. SO, use your phone to store contacts and back up contacts to memory card.

When it's backed up to the memory card, you can grab the vCard file off of the card and edit it in your computer too! That's how I keep all my contacts synced, up between my Sharps and my Outlook (I've got a dedicated vCard organizer in between). Quite handy.

I've adjusted it as much as I can think of doing, does any one have a pic of how the contact s should line up on the sim card. PSS Sim website and video don't give a full view of the contacts on the sim.

Just make sure the little nipples on the PSS sim (6 of them) line up with the scratch marks on your sim card (if you sim is new, this won't work for ya).

I am using it with my AT&T 3G-blah-blah SIM card without any repro prompt or issues...

In the back, there is an adhesive tape that you can use to attach pss-sim with your own sim card - that seems to work for me.

For those who haven't got theirs, I hope that you all will get yours soon!!!!

Same here got it this morning, finally! Was a little scared it got lost in the robbery thing but thankfully not.

So have tried it out and it surprisingly WORKS yaaay! Have tried a little with USIM contacts but that i'm not sure works but whatever. So I seem to have some problems with the connectivity with 3g and gsm like if I try to use my 3g it stops working after some time and then gsm doesn't work either but if I do a restart it works fine. So i guess i'll just stick with the gsm for now will try with another card later as the one i've got kinda sucks.

Was really a pain to fit it inside the holder had to put tape like everywhere so that i could squeeze it into the slot with all the might i dared use, have done it twice now and it continues to work anyhow. Recieving calls sms is a bless, just have to get some money on my phone so i can try calling but don't think it will be an issue

YAY so now what, feels kinda empty after getting it all to work etc think i need to use it a little then i will feel the benefit of the phone that i felt in Japan =)

So this about 2gb cards, i bought one didn't work and got my phone updated in like august this year, did i get the wrong card... what ones work or might it just be vodafone and softbank issue between the two kinds?

No repro also which is AWESOME feels strange though since i'm so used with it so i always go into the menu and then go out again by mistake out of habit.

Love that store, great service great card anyhow! The packaging is also nice

Also congrats Martin on your buy then, have you got it to work, was it really 120$ usd for a new one?! Nice catch if so!

what do you mean by "if your sim is new, this won't work for ya."? does it mean it won't work on newer rogers/fido sims?

Tried again a few times last nice, but still gives me the USIM and japanese characters. Lined it up with the "scratches" on the card. I think the 3M tape is begining to lose it's stickiness. I'll try again tonite, but I'll use less attenmpts or this thing will break or lose it's adhesiveness.

So, for now, I'm using my iphone. No Sharp for me

So now it's confirmed that PSS Sims work with 904sh.. I will just wait until the price of the sims comes down.. It's too expensive for a piece of small circuit board... at least for me for now.
